  2. So what else are you gonna buy with your C&R?
  3. Nice on the O3FFL. Thought about getting one myself but then I imagined a gun cabinet full of Mosin-Nagants and not being able to sell them. Ahhh...the smell of cosmoline! Does your C&R get you a discount on ammo? Modern ammo I mean?
  4. I should also say William was very busy at the time when I asked him about barrel break-in and he told me that the manufacturer recommends something like cleaning the barrel after every shot for the first 50 but he felt I was good to go for 250 rounds before cleaning or lubing the gun. The guy's been in the Army National Guard since 1990and has been to Iraq so I think he knows his way around the AR platform so I'm going to heed his advice. Especially after what I have been reading or AR15. com and Glock Talk. And when William made that recommendation to me he knew the gun was built for killing bowling pins and not a match target rifle.
  5. CMMG Lower $150 DPMS Lower Parts Kit $55 Tapco Mil-Spec Stock $88 LMT Barrel + Colt Upper $500 PMAGS and Detachable Carry Handle on the way! William put it together this morning for me and test fired right in his shop in a barrel made for that purpose. He lubed the gun with Hoppe's gun grease and told me to clean the barrel after every shot for the first 50 rounds. Also, gave me a target for sighting the gun in at 25m. I lost my other pics(my wife moved them which disabled the links). So I threw them all back up. I'll post more tomorrow and I still have questions Bill!
  6. LOL guys one of my favorite video games from the early nineties used to scream that from the mono television when my step-brother and I would play late into the night... Ahhh...good times! Building this AR is the best thang I've done in awhile. I feel like a little kid at Christmas and darn if ain't almost Christmas! So I took my stripped lower to Gering and had William at the Tannery Shop put the DPMS parts in it and install a stock. That cost me $150. I wanted to watch the parts installation and take some pictures but the wife kept calling on the cell phone telling me to come pick her up, so I just left the lower at the shop. When I got back after picking her up from the salon(wish I woulda left her there!) William had the parts kit in the lower and the stock on the gun.
  7. The only difference in mil-spec and commercial is the butt stock threads. A commercial butt stock will rattle in a mil-spec lower unless I have been misinformed. Please feel free to explain if anybody knows any better.
  8. Oh yah they muck it up a lot. I read cheap dime store Western novels and believe or not many of them are written with historical correctness in mind. And 99.9% of the time the stories are better. Very rarely do I watch television or movies.
  9. Yah I've heard of it but let me get this straight. You're saying joining the GSSF would make one CMP compliant? My brother has expressed interest in shooting the M1 Garand.
  10. http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=6087 Saw this over at Glock Talk. This is why I was concerned about driving with a gun. The laws are so confusing at times. This guy did everything by the book yet New Jersey decided to put him in prison for transporting two handguns that were locked up and unloaded. Seven years for that! C'mon New Jersey!
  11. Seriously doubt they were ever mass produced if they were even made...
  12. .45-60? Wow, and people are complaining about all the new calibers today. Things haven't changed as much as some believe. I read these cheesy Western mystery novels by Tabor Evans and the main character carries a Winchester in .44-40 same as his six gun which I believe is a Colt. I should really pay attention I guess. The other day I think my buddy got the .44-40 and the .45-70 confused as he was swearing the .45-70 was the way to go for Cowboy action as you could get in a lever-action carbine and a revolver. I still think that he thinks I'm crazy when I told him how rare the .45-70 caliber revolver actually is! Can you imagine that! I know they make 'em but imagine shooting one of those in Cowboy Action!
  13. These prices seem to good to be true! All I need is my lower. Look at these kits! These are some of the best prices I have ever seen! http://tanneryshop.com/gun_kit-AR15.html
  14. Quite an interesting website. This guy has a 1300 yd prairie dog kill and a 1500 yd coyote kill. Also a member or Nebraska National Guard serving in Irag and a member of the Nebraska shooting team. http://tanneryshop.com/ Seems like things are lining up nice! I had no idea who this guy was just remember he had a few AR parts when I went to the local guns show almost a year ago. Darn I was just there in that town yesterday but we were on a totally different mission. I figured after I bought the lower the wife wouldn't really tolerate any more gun stores and I had to turn her loose at Wal-mart. I dislike Wal-mart with a passion but they do have .40 S&W really cheap!
  15. UPDATE: I called shop that's about 55 miles away because I remembered talking to the guy at the last gun show. He had a bunch of AR's already built and parts needed to build them. I thought I'd give him a call and see if he had any of these parts I needed as I like to buy local when I can. Turns out he is a DPMS dealer and has everything, same price as Midway! Except for the upper, which we will have to negotiate. I did tell him about the DPMS upper on Midway for $399 and he says he can sell me basically the same thing for that price. So I'm set like a jet! It'll be Tuesday before I can get down there to pick up the parts. In the meantime guys I'm thinking I'll need to start rounding up some tools and finding some good online how-to sources. Here we go...
  16. Oh yah this is the one I bought. http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/CMMG-Semi-Auto-Stripped-Lower-Receiver-509 It's mil-spec whatever that means. So I'm gonna order the DPMS stuff you linked me to but first I want you, Bill or anybody that knows, to look at at that lower and tell me if the mil-spec requires any different part kits. Right now I'm ready to order!
  17. Awesome thanks man! I'm taking the wife out to eat for lunch. Free because we own the place! And when I get back I'll say some more about what style we want. I'm gonna try and find out what the Army uses in Basic Training because my little brother is considering joining and asked if we could build something like that. I have no idea what they are using... Oh yah guys, any of you besides Bill who has built one of these things...be sure to chime in. I'm gonna do it step-by-step and posts pics here at Practically Shooting. I'm hoping it will turn out nice and be a benefit for the site. Thanks Bill, for the links, and be prepared to answer questions in the coming weeks. 18. So tell us more about your guns!
  19. Well I give up. Surely someone else knows the correct answer and will arrive shortly. Learned something very interesting about a gun used by Thomas Magnum though! Maybe I'll post a pop quiz myself in the coming days...
  20. So that's not the right answer? Hmmm...go go gadget Google!
  21. That one he used in Monte Walsh! If I were a bettin' man that's the one I'd say. It was a .50! Woot! I'm a big Selleck fan. I have Magnum P.I. on dvd. When I was growing up my mom always watched so I did too. Now she's watching this series where he's a cop in New Jersey or something. I ummm...well my television hasn't been turned on in months. Every since I gave the PS3 to my little brother. Out in here in Nebraskastan we get two channels...so you'd either pay outrageous prices for satellite or you watch PBS. And I don't have a digital converter lol! So I watch nothing! Prolly why I spend so much time on the internets. Yah I'm betting it's that Winchester 1884 big .50! Curious thing with myself and lever-actions. I built a fence for a guy when I was 15 and he paid me with a Marlin that would pinch your fingers and had a FTF problem. I hated it and thought it was so ugly. Like Harley-Davidsons! Good gawd Harleys and lever-actions were ugly. Funny thing, the older I get the prettier they look! WTH is happening to me?!
  22. Yah the G32 and G23 are supposedly the same gun and over at Glock Talk I've read that all I need is the barrel. So I will have 3 guns in one! 9mm,.357 Sig, and .40 S$W all from the same platform. I need some 9mm magazines and the two barrels and I'm good to go! As for reloading...nah I don't think so. I leave all of the brass at the range piled on a table and it disappears... I live in an apartment and don't think reloading is feasible at this time. I keep holding off on a house hoping I'll be able to move back to Florida one day.
