  1. I can get a conversion barrel for the G23 and effectively turn it into a 9mm. Thought of doing that just for the cheapness of the ammo. What I really want is a G32 barrel so I can shoot the .357 Sig. Been wanting to try out that round for awhile now...
  2. Yah something like that I guess...I ain't never seen it just keep hearing about it. Some of the farmers and ranchers around here pay big bucks to relocate prairie dog families. Funny at the range I shoot at they are protected! Tons of them out there popping their heads up and down while you are shooting. Get caught shooting one and you are kicked outta the club! Safest place for the dawgs is on the range! LOL
  3. Yah a big difference between the .45 and .40 is the pressure curve. The .40 is loaded to higher SAAMI pressure and reaches max pressure almost instantly while the .45 is on the other end of the spectrum. This I learned from researching the net and do not pretend to be and expert. More powder equals more recoil in the .40 for sure... I'm gonna keep a box of Golden Sabers for the times I hope never happen. They have a reputation for being a easy recoiling load. They shoot fairly well in my Glock. That said I still have many more HP's to try out. Fun!
  4. I chose the G23 cause it feels good in my hand. I like the trigger. I like the Tenifer finish. I like the Glock reputation. I like the simplicity. I like the Glock. That said I have to disagree with the Glock slogan of "PERFECTION". The gun is not perfect. Good enough for what I want it to do. Glock should change their slogan to "GOOD ENOUGH FOR MOST APPLICATIONS, RELIABLE, DURABLE, AND EASY TO MAINTAIN" LOL That said I'm getting an M&P .40 next! I only wish I coulda bought both. Well I could have...should have... My bud says, "It's just money!" Yah but I needed to get in the door and learn a bit first. K I'm ready for door number two now! Yah it does fit nice. I should be a hand model for Glock. They must have used a guy/gal with a similiar sized hand in designing this model. I have smaller hands though. I couldn't imagine buying the Glock 22. When I pick one up the grip angle at that size becomes uncomfortable. The M&P felt nice. The M&P is on deck. Stay tuned!
  5. Well that is contrary to what I have read and always heard. Though I know it has some ring of truth to it from my recent experience with the 155gr Silvertips vs the 180gr Golden Sabers. Interesting tidbit. The Sabers have Nickel plated cases. Great for corrosion resistance in a loaded magazine that sees long term storage. Neither of my magazines are loaded until I get to the range though.
  6. MORE. Haha yah guys shoot more and buy more handguns. I'm glad there is no limit on guns one can own. Decided to go out today and pick up any pieces of pumpkin that might not have gotten picked up. The club I belong too prides itself on a clean range and I follow that mission. I knew we'd picked up the pieces but I needed an excuse to get back out there because I needed to shoot the Golden Sabers and Silvertips again. Had to tell the wife something it being Thanksgiving and all...she understands! The Silvertips have more recoil despite being a lighter bullet. 155gr versus 180gr for the Sabers. Both were accurate enough. And if you go to the Remington site and compare the .40 vs .45 Golden Sabers at 180gr and 185gr respectively the .40 almost perfectly mimics the .45 in velocity and energy in this loading. I like it and I think it is a good choice for a home defense round. The .40 snap seems mellowed out a bit and more controllable for repeat shots. I still want to try the Hornady TAP ammo and that will be next... So now the Glock has 521 flawless rounds through it... Happy Thanksgiving Yall!
  7. Shot up the pumpkins today! Fun! It was so cold and windy one of us sat in the car loading magazines while the other was shooting. The Glock performed flawlessly. 100rds WWB 180gr FMJ 38rds Winchester Silvertip 155gr HP 8rds Hornady XTP 180gr HP 8rds Remington Golden Saber 180gr HP So that's 503 rds total through the Glock. One less than 504 cause I kept one of the American Eagle FMJ last time out to compare to the Winchester FMJ and left it in the gun closet. I'd say the Glock is broken in. The FIL came out today and he says it has been 28 years since he fired a gun. Wow! He really amazed both myself and my BIL with his shooting prowess. The "old man" beat us both in rounds fired per bowling pins knocked over. And he destroyed the pumpkin at 25 yards in heavy gusts of wind and 11 degree weather. What a great shot! He blames it on having to be a good shot growing up poor on a farm. "Sometimes we got hungry and all we had was a .22" were his words when I asked him who taught him how to shoot. Hunger. He's the oldest of ten and I know his dad was a drunk so I can imagine having to put some meat in the pot while his "old man" was in town at the bar. Ewww! Jackrabbit! Blah! He liked the Glock so much I offered to let him have it right there on the spot. It'd give me an excuse to go buy that M&P. He politely turned down the offer. That ain't gonna stop me from getting that M&P though. Wow! I want one. Just like I wanted this Glock. I LIKE HANDGUNS! I'll be watching the Cabela's flyers...
  8. 100 rds Remington UMC FMJ 180gr 100 rds Federal FMJ 180gr 50 rds Fiocchi FMJ 170gr 100 rds Federal American Eagle 165gr That's what we've shot through the Glock 23 so far. So I've got 350 rds through the 23 and I have been using Ballistol to clean the barrel and lube the gun. Two days ago I went out the range by myself and was walking out to the 200yd line to pick up some bowling pins and halfway there I spotted two pumpkins hanging out on top of one of the rifle targets! As yall prolly know by now "Pumpkin Loitering" of any kind is not tolerated at the range. So I shot 'em! My first pumpkin kill. I was about 50 yards out and said pumpkins took the bullets like nothing hit them. I was thinking I was missing until closer examination showed I scored quite a few hits. The back of the pumpkins were all blowed out but I'm not sure that was from the .40 as each pumpkin had been hit by a high-powered rifle previously. Tomorrow were going out again and there are four pumpkins being detained in the living room as we speak awaiting a kangaroo court(they were caught "loitering" in the foyer) and a range sentencing! Will be using the HP's this time. And won't be shooting from 50 yards this time. What range should I shoot the HP's at said Pumpkins for max effect? I wanna shot the HP's at paper too, to kinda get an idea which brand and weight I feel most comfortable with in the Glock. I'll do that at about 7 yards. Now the recoil of the .40 doesn't bother me at all anymore. It's nothing to sneeze at but I've changed up my grip and I feel more comfortable. I'm no longer squeezing the grip as hard as I can trying to keep the gun from moving. Now I'm using a firm grip but a bit more relaxed concentrating on aiming and recoil only seems a factor when firing repeated rounds one after the other. If I take my time and aim and do double taps the Glock shoots accurately. It is not a machine gun! So should I expect more recoil from these HP's? I've heard the Hornady's are quite hot!
  9. I know what you meant Bill about the .22lr versions and them being basically non-interchangeable with other Black Rifle components. The .22lr only S&W version is starting to look better and better though as a first .22 for myself and my brother to stalk bowling pins with. I like the the price of .22lr ammo. Not having one I might just pick one of those up and get the 5.56mm AR at a later date. Ah decisions decisions...
  10. The ummm Bushy is a 5.56mm and I just knew it was too good to be true. I think I'll pick up a DPMS from a semi-local dealer. It's this one... http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=1049 I know it don't have the adjustable stock but I can add that later right? I thought about building my own but the FFL's around here are pretty much laughing in my face when I tell them I want a stripped lower for $130.
  11. Update: Cabela's has their Carbon 15 with a TRS-25 red dot sight for $649. It is a one day sale on the 26th and it only lasts for a couple hours. The Carbon 15 has a composite upper and lower... Hmmm...
  12. Wow the early 70's! How much were they back then?
  13. Great idea Bill! Hmmm... I could buy a component each payday. I don't know why I didn't think of this!
  14. Yah well, who makes the S&W M&P AR15. Surely on my list if it's American made. Thing is with the M&P .40 handgun is there is no midsize. You either buy the big one or the little one. My hand fits the Glock Compact like "white on rice". Otherwise I woulda bought the M&P but I'm might be fixin' too taking the CCW class for Nebraskastan and the G23 will do it and shoot bowlin' pins at 100 yards all day long! The Smithy AR15's are a distant third choice because of one thing. Price. They are just a bit more than the DPMS. Awww...man I've got an itch that needs scratched! Remember what happened last time I had an itch? And if yall need clarification on the above post lemme know...I work nights and I'm headed to bed...
  15. Really enjoy the Glock 23. I think tho...I want an M&P .40 and an XD. I'm not sure which XD I want. For some reason Cabela's has quite a few used XDM's and regular XD's in both .40 and 9mm. I do however know which M&P I want. One glaring thing about the M&P I don't like is that right on the slide it says..."Warning:Gun will still fire without magazine" or something like that. Do we really need that spelled out for us? I think this detracts from the guns looks. Of course I don't want the gun for its looks and I will prolly get one. A lot of forums topic revolve around the M&P being the softest shooting .40. I'm getting to know the .40 though and don't believe recoil is a problem for me. Cost of ammo is though so the 9mm M&P will be considered too. Another thing my little brother has been bitten by the AR Black Rifle craze! He wants me to get an AR to shoot at the range. I have no problem with this but they are so many to choose from, just as soon as I buy one I will find another set-up I would want more. So it's gonna take me even longer to pick one than it did picking out a polymer 9mm. And I didn't even get a 9mm. There are a few used AR's around here but I think they're quite expensive for used. I kinda like the DPMS models that a local dealer has but they are "plain janes". Another words they are M16 clones with the straight stock and long barrel. Of course I could always buy another stock...would be stuck with the non-detachable handguard tho if I bought one of these. So I'll need to custom order one or pay more for an RRA that another dealer has. For some reason the RRA's don't grab my attention as much as the DPMS. I know they are pretty similiar but I cain't see why they cost so much more. Like $400 more. Maybe cause they have rails and detachable handguards. So I'm wanting to save up for either the M&P .40 or an AR...ah decisions, decisions! Your thoughts please? I have two guns...a Yugo M24/47 and a Glock 23. What would you recommend next for someone with a limited arsenal such as mine? Price isn't really a huge issue as I know how to put money away it just takes longer. Glad I saved for the Glock instead of settling for a cheaper semi-auto. So recommend an AR or the M&P, of course I don't always listen to reason but I like to talk guns and well you guys here are the ones I talk guns with... Primary Purpose: Range Use Secondary Purpose: WTSHTF Those two reasons above are the two things I think about when I consider a firearms purchase. And ummm all that SHTF stuff is a far off second. Any gun that is a good range gun(bowling pin killer at up to 300 yards automatically by design will also double nicely as a SHTF weapon IMO.) Thanks for yalls time and opinions!
  16. My G23 came with a plastic cleaning rod and a soft bore brush which I believe is Nylon. It's not metal of course. I've put 500 rounds through the Glock and tonite I decided to brush the bore with the supplied brush. I used Ballistol and ran it through the bore a couple times with the supplied cleaning rod. Now the brush is full of Ballistol, powder residue and maybe some copper particles. So it is dirty. I was thinking hot water and soap, and then letting it dry thoroughly. The bristles are mounted on an aluminum rod. At least it looks aluminum. So how do yall clean plastic/nylon bristle bore brushes? Or should I just leave it like it is?
  17. Getting used to the Glock 23's recoil has taken a bit but I'm pretty much there. Had an almost "zen" like moment the other day at the range shooting up bowling pins! Got in a zone and it seemed like I was firing a laser. Knocked down five bowling pins at 25 yards with 6 shots. There was no recoil felt or observed during this booming! LOL...I've only been firing 180gr hardball though from Remington, Fiocchi(very hot), and winchester. Maybe the Fiocchi was 170gr. It was really messy on my hands loading it. I liked the way it shot but my fingertips were covered in this greyness. Don't wanna get lead poisoning so I'll pass on that ammo next time. That or get some latex gloves. Anyways I bought some HP's today. Maybe tomorrow I'll get to the range and see what the Glock likes. I need a SHTF ammo. Here's what I bought and yall be sure and tell me what yall think of any of this ammo if you have experience with it. Remington Golden Saber 180gr 20ct $20.79 Winchester Silvertips 155gr 50ct $25.99 Hornady XTP 180gr 20ct $15.99 Supposedly the Silvertips is what LE uses around here. That's what the guy said who sold it too me. The Golden Sabers look awesome for an HP. And since Hornady is made in Nebraskastan I figured I'd support the local boys! Any good .40 HP's you guys have shot and like? Thanks for yalls time!
  18. Yah an awesome experience! I felt like a little kid at Christmas time... Yah Wayne next time you're in the Panhandle of Nebraskastan look me up! I know some ranchers who need bovine protection. And I know a place where some low-down lousy bowling pins like to loiter. And loitering is illegal for bowling pins in my town! Well Imma edit this...okay it ain't "illegal" for bowling pins to loiter. Just that me and Chip(my lil bro) we don't take kindly to that sorta stuff...
  19. Took the Glock out to hunt bowling pins Saturday afternoon. Ran into a bud of mine who happens to be the local rifle club president of which I am a member. He also teaches a concealed carry class and is an expert pistol shot. So I got to talking to him while my little brother was shooting the Glock. After a bit I loaded him up a magazine and asked him to take the Glock for a spin so he could show me and my brother some technique. He was a excellent shot and very fast moving from target to target which were bowling pins at about 25 feet. I had them spaced about 5 feet apart and he swept them down with my Glock 23 expertly. And he said it'd been awhile since he had shot a Glock. A true Shootist! We were impressed and then he said, "Well since you let me run yours I'll let you guys run mine." And then went to his truck and we went out to set up the bowling pins. When we got back he was standing there holding an UZI with a wood stock, a silencer, and a holographic sight! Not an UZI he tells me but a MAC. And FULL AUTO!
  20. Me Three Then!(Takes registration card out of "To Mail Folder")
  21. You guys fill these out and send them in? I filled out the one that came with my Glock and I am gonna mail it tomorrow just don't want my name sold. I don't know if Glock does this but is this card really necessary for the warranty to be valid?
  22. One of the Co-Founders of Cabela's shot that elephant in 1990. Dick Cabela if I remember correctly. The bull was shot in Nigeria if I remember right and is mounted right in the store. It's an awesome sight and I thought you guys would enjoy the pic that I had my wife take of me on a whim. Next Episode! Shooting a Polar Bear!
  23. Yah G-MAN I was sitting in a hotel room watching that video Sunday night when the idea to get the Glock 23 really took hold. I think I will get that .357 Sig barrel mostly as a conversation piece and occasionally shooting it. If I like the way it shoots who knows I might use that round for home defense. Hickok sure shoots his G23 smoother than I do. I've got video of myself shooting but my technique needs work badly! So I'm gonna work on it before I show yall. I'm good to go with a revolver but this semi auto shooting is different I don't care what anybody says! My little brother who is sixteen went with me to the range yesterday and he's been shooting an XD 5" Tactical in .45ACP and he shot the Glock very well! I will post that video here as soon as the wife gets home as it is on her blackberry.
  24. Hey BIU what's the recoil of the .357 Sig like in this platform? I can get a barrel for $105!
