  1. Just got back from shooting the Glock. Wowser! I really shoulda listened to you guys when yall told me the .40 was snappy. I've shot a .45 that felt better than this. The first shot was quite an eye opener! I thought I had a very firm grip as I was pushing and pulling and I had my arms locked and the gun bucked really nasty on that first shot! I shot 50 rounds and about halfway through the box I started to get the hang of it. The recoil is so much that I'm surprised this is a cop round. The .40 S&W demands respect and some really good technique otherwise you ain't gonna hit the broadside of a barn! When my brother gets out of school we are gonna go shoot it again. And I did lube after I shot it. 5 tiny drops is all the Glocks need I guess. I'll have some range pics tonite...
  2. Yah it's what I wanted. A .40 S&W I was gonna get the 9mm but all they had were the expensive models with lasers and/or night sights and of course the Gen 4. They had this left over Gen 3 G23 for $519 bucks so I bought it. I pretty much decided when I woke up this morning I was getting either the 10mm or the .40 and I couldn't wrap my hands around the 10mm frame. So I bought the .40 and my buddy just reloaded 7000 rounds of .40 and told me to come shoot! That said Glock recommends against firing reloaded ammo because the chamber is not fully supported so I'll stick with factory ammo until I get an aftermarket barrel with the fully supported chamber. Yes I know this wasn't the best decision for a first time Semi Auto buyer. It is what I wanted though. Had to buy this gun. It was talking to me through the glass display case. And I know what I'm getting into so yall don't worry I won't complain about the price of ammo. I bought 200 rounds of FMJ 180gr Federal and Remington. 100 rds of each. It was expensive but it's what I wanted. I did buy a box of Hornady 180gr HP's in case zambees attack! That said I'm going shooting tomorrow and I'm wondering what if any cleaning or prep I should do? I got a bottle of ballistol and all the tools but I need to find a video of how to lube Glocks and/or read the manual again. It's a bit vague and I like videos but I wanna lube this baby right. Don't wanna over lube nah mean?
  3. Didn't Clint Eastwood shoot one of those in one of his flicks?
  4. I bought the "Hickok Special" aka the G23. It's the one I wanted. Sorry bout the pic. Woulda went all out but yall seen pics of a Glock before I know. It just so happens that my hands fit the Glock 19/23's very well. I like the size of this gun and I might be getting my CCW next year and this gun will work for that purpose until I get something smaller in size. Until then though...this baby is gonna be bustin' bowling pins at 100 yards! I will say this...I almost bought the M&P. It was real close. If I hadn't wanted a Glock so bad. I had to "scratch that itch" as G-MAN said. Plus the G23 is a bit more concealable. And I think after I've been shooting for awhile I'll know more about what kinda gun I wanna buy next...
  5. Yah in Tennessee I talked to my cousin whom I had never met before and he explained the law to me. He is a major in the Air Force and we had a good ol' time talking guns and catchin' up. He drove from Texas and brought his Ruger GP100 .357 Magnum. I didn't take any guns with me but next time I will. I didn't want to have to worry so this time I didn't. Now that I have a somewhat clearer understanding of the law and know how to handle myself if I am pulled over I feel better about transporting guns. I don't know why I even worry I never do anything that gets me pulled over and I never do anything that would get my car searched... I just wanted to be clear on the law.
  6. Still not sure but on my way out to Tennessee I stopped at Cabela's and window shopped. There is a Glock 23 Gen 3 brand new for $519. Driving on the Interstates I didn't even really think about it for some reason. I'll let yall know tomorrow afternoon...
  7. 10's rule and plinkers drool! Anyways I was just asking if anyone had shot it. I like to watch Hickok videos when I get home from work in the morning and thought you guys would like to see a few of my favorites. Cabela's has a used one for I forget how much... I'll be buying my polymer pistol on Tuesday. I prolly won't pick up a 10 though...
  8. Nice Nice! I'm headed to Tennessee next week an hour east of Nashville so I'll be on the other end of the state but plenty of mountains and hills and hollows and creeks... I love Tennessee!
  9. And here's another one for your viewing pleasure.
  10. Anybody ever shoot one? Not gonna buy one...well never say never but I think shooting one would be quite the experience. I think the Glock 17 is too big so I cain't imagine a bigger grip. Anybody ever shot any 10mm? I know the 10mm begot the .40 and I have read about it in magazines but wondering what you guys think of it. Hickok things it would be a good bear gun! This video ain't the one where he says that but if you like this vid check out his channel.
  11. I have learned that Glock test fires their guns with 2 rounds of Blazer before they leave the place of assembly.
  12. Got the Ballistol package today. Nice corrosive ammo recipe right on the side of the can. Perfect. Brought out the M24/47 and rubbed her down all over with the stuff. Took the bolt apart and gave it a light treatment. Let the barrel soak with the stuff for about 10 minutes. The barrel had previously been cleaned with Windex and then Rem oil. The patches came out so dirty you would swear the gun had just fired a hundred rounds of 50's yugo ball. I think the ballistol is a great cleaner. After another treatment the patches were still coming out dirty. So I swabbed until the patches were coming out almost dry and decided to let her be with just enough Ballistol to keep the barrel lubed. The stock sucked up a copious amount of ballistol and didn't give much back when I try to rub it off. So I let her sit in the gun cabinet all night lubed up like she just came off the assembly line. I like the fact that the ballistol is good for the wood too. Don't have to worry about any spills onto the stock. Very light pleasant smell unlike anything I've smelt before...maybe anise? Asked the wife if it bothered her and she said no. The Outers Gun Solvent made her sick to the stomach she said. So I think we have a winner.
  13. So far I've gotten nothing but conjecture on Bob. Ah well I have found a site that has each and every state's laws on car carry posted. Ignorance of a law is not a defense in court. However laws change so one must so diligent in keeping up with them all! Imma safe driver. And they don't need to know what's in my trunk at a routine traffic stop. http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/USRVCarCarry.pdf
  14. Thanks Wayne, that will help. I decided to throw the cheese to the bitog mice and see what I'd get...
  15. http://rugerforum.net/ruger-pistols/25908-sr9-dry-firing.html This explains it better than I can G-MAN. And I ain't arguing with those "know-it-alls" on youtube anymore. Wow they're hard headed!
  16. Actually page 17 of the manual.
  17. Yah G-MAN I know it won't fire with the magazine out of the gun but it will still click when you pull the trigger. That is the striker slamming into the mag release safety. Ruger says not to dry fire without a magazine in the gun or to remove the mag safety release. Some guns have failed after damaging the striker from dry firing without a magazine. Sad that in Hickok's videos he dry fires without a magazine. I tried to tell him and I got jumped by the "youtube experts" for trying to tell him. I have a friend who has the gun and it clearly states on Page 18 of the manual to not dry fire without a magazine.
  18. Kentucky and Tennessee laws are confusing me. I think you have to open carry where the gun is in sight and unloaded. I want the gun locked in the trunk in it's case. So I'll prolly nix the idea all together. Haven't had a vacation in a few years and I'm hoping the weather holds out. Don't wanna be worried about going to jail... That said my mom doesn't have a .22 Maybe I should get her to buy one to plink around with on the farm. And leave it there and have it registered in her name. It'll be her gun and I know she'll like it as when her sister comes over they can shoot together. Since my grandparents passed my mom lives on the farm by herself with lots of relatives nearby and they come to the farm to shoot. I was hoping to get my mom interested in shooting a handgun for PD. And maybe after some good ol' .22 plinking fun she might do that!
  19. Bill, you should get us some pics of the SR40 and do a write up for us. I am also shopping the Glock 23 and the M&P 40. G-MAN, Yes I have seen the Hickok video. He really likes compacts. I don't plan on carrying concealed. So I don't really understand the benefits of the compact. The SR9 is definitely high on the list now.

    Ruger SR9

Did I tell you guys I can get one of these for $440 out the door! Nice gun. For some reason it feels really small in my hand compared to other 9mm's of the same capacity. The SR9 holds 17 rounds in the magazine if I'm not mistaken. However, it's kind of weird but the gun shop owner wouldn't let me dry fire it without a magazine in the gun. Anyways I loved the trigger dry firing it and I liked the grip. So if I bought one of these I could go home with 300 rds of 115gr FMJ for the price of the Glock 19 with no ammo. This makes my decision even more difficult. Anybody got an SR9? Anything I should know? I'm really wanting an American made gun. Do I need to buy the M&P or should I just forget American made and pick up that Glock? I'm so torn in my decision process that I've had the money to buy whatever I want for a week now and haven't bought. This SR9 feels good...but I don't like the fact that I cain't dry fire it without a magazine. And ummm... I really hate that thing that pops up when a round is the chamber. Ruger kinda messed up an almost perfect gun with those two fails!
  21. Will be driving from NE to TN first part of November. Currently researching whether it's legal or not to take my handgun. My mother lives on seven acres about an hour east of Nashville. She lives on a hill surrounded by forest and a creek. Visiting during the summer as I was growing up I journeyed and wandered all over that land. Really beautiful. Lots of good places to shoot and I will definitely be shooting my bb gun that I left in there when I was fourteen. That is if it still works. Or I'll buy another when I get there. I asked my mom if I could shoot on her land and she says my cousins and aunt who has a CCW do all the time. So why not? I'll be there a week and getting some shooting done should be fun. My cousin is a Kentucky Highway Patrol and I think he carries the .45 GAP. If he were to visit like I hope he can while I'm there it would be nice to go shootin'. So far it looks as if I lock up my gun in the case in the trunk with the unloaded mags in the glovebox with the ammo(I'll prolly buy ammo at wallyworld in TN). I should be fine. I'll be driving across Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Kentucky on my way. If anyone feels this is illegal let me know. I'm checking the NRA site right now on the Interstate Right To Carry Reciprocity as we speak. If I am pulled over would you recommend I tell the officer right away my gun is locked in the trunk or not mention unless they ask if I'm carrying any firearms. My plan is to not say anything unless asked. I'm a safe driver but you never know how things will go on the interstates. If it's gonna be a big deal I'll just shoot my bb gun when I get there if it still works or buy a new one and leave it with my mom. She has a .38 snubby but it's so old and I don't think it would be fun to shoot anyways but I might! So Thanks and let me know!
  22. Looking at Blazer Aluminum cased stuff in 9mm. Anybody ever shot it? I see it's 13 bucks for 50 rds at Cabela's.
  23. Just wondering because you seem to be gobbling up some of your favorite type firearms. Figured you'd have an engraved safe queen to show us. I spend a lot of time drooling over big game nitro express doubles on another site and a lot of them are engraved wonderfully. Didn't mean to go off topic... Nice rifle you got there!
