  1. Might have been a spat with someone on BITOG? Wayne
  2. I've had a Jack West adjustable stock on my 870 for a couple years now. Other than having a custom wood stock made, the Jack West stock is the best option I've found for the 870. I would have to tighten the screw that holds the stock to the receiver about every 6 months. For some reason it just wouldn't stay tight. I have never applied Loctite to the thread, but this might have helped. A couple weeks ago I noticed the stock coming loose again, so I disassembled it and decided to try to figure out why it won't stay tight. What I observed is that the threads on the original screw only had about 1/4" of thread contact. My guess is that 1/4" just isn't enough thread engagement to keep from working loose. I googled around and found a 10.75" Remington stock bolt at Brownells and ordered it. The thread contact length is now 3/4", which is almost the full length of the threaded nut in the receiver. I applied blue Loctite to the threads, which should help as well. Hopefully between the longer screw and the Loctite, I won't have to re-tighten the stock again. If you have a Jack West stock, make sure you have a 10.75" stock screw. Wayne
  3. If this was done at the factory, it's pretty disappointing, but I didn't buy the rifle new. I just can't believe the guy I bought it from would have half done anything. I'm going to put a Vltor low-profile clamp-on gas block on when I get my barrel back. It's in Phoenix right now getting threaded - will post pics when it gets back. Wayne
  4. Pablo, Why a 10mm, just curious? The 1911 and Glock are so different in so many ways, it might be easier if we know what you'll use it for. Wayne
  5. I just removed my barrel to have it threaded so I can put on a muzzle brake. When I removed the gas block I expected it to have set screws to hold the block in place. It had no set screw and the single hole for a set screw is NOT even threaded. The block did fit tight and appears to have had some kind of epoxy used to hold it there. The AR is a Bushmaster Varminter, which I'm kind for surprised as another identical gun that hittman has does have two set screws. Any idea why my block has no way to mechanically secure the block to the barrel? Thanks, Wayne

  7. Bill, Mouth watering already... I think Barry should join us as well! Wayne
  8. Bill, I think we have three Cheesecake Factory restaurants here in Chicagoland. Game on! :-) Wayne
  9. I had a Lee LoadMaster for about two years until I literally gave it away. I got to the point where I couldn't tolerate messing with the primer feeder trying to get it to feed reliably. Then I bought a Hornady Lock-n-Load AP and am simply amazed at how well the primer feeder works. Wayne
  10. Bill, I'll bet you lunch the next time I see you this incident will never make the airwaves. I'd think their legal council would stop it.. Wayne
  11. Posted earlier on BITOG. You're always supposed to know your backstop, in this case they should have HAD a backstop!
  12. Barry, You mean the price is high or they aren't available? Wayne
  13. I called Ruger Monday morning about trouble with light firing pin strikes. I described the problem in detail and the rep immediately emailed me an overnight shipping label. The call took all of three minutes and the rep was very informed and polite. Another great customer service experience with Ruger! Wayne
  14. I'd never heard of this until I got an email from Guns & Ammo this morning. I'll bet it kicks like mule! Wayne
  15. Got the XGrip extension and used it at the range. Works perfectly, but requires a strong push to get the magazine to latch. The grip now feels just like a full sized M&P.
  16. 700 Caliber bolt action rifle chambered in .700 W-T-F. 700 W-T-F is a necked-up 50BMG case with a 1132g cast lead bullet. I hope I never shoot one.
  17. Went to the range tonight and had several more fail to fires caused by light primer strikes. Googled around and found this video on Youtube, which is the exact same problem I have. Author writes in the comments that Ruger has an update to the LC9 to fix the problem, so I guess I'm going to call Ruger Monday and get mine sent in. 18. Wish I were closer, I'd come to the signing. We understand now why you haven't been here much lately! Wayne
  19. RLH70, Most of what I've handled have been made in the last 5 years. I suspect as manufacturing volume has gone up, quality has suffered. Wayne
  20. Thanks Barry - this fine write-up now is on our main web page: http://www.practicallyshooting.com/ Wayne
  21. Barry, Hold the off making the carrier, I'm having problems with the Thunderbolt and might just get a different phone. Wayne
  22. The cleaning appears to have removed virtually all of the gunpowder residue in 10 min?! That's pretty darn impressive. Wayne
  23. It took all the mental strength I had not to flinch while shooting these hot .357 loads, as the noise and flash were simply awesome.
  24. I was talking to a sales associate at a large local retailer about Taurus firearms. He said the returns on Taurus firearms because of breakage or defects are easily 10 times more than all other makes combined. He said he tries to steer people to other makes, unless price is the only factor that motivates their purchase. I don't own any Taurus guns and now probably never will. Wayne
  25. Barry, You are absolutely correct about full hand squeeze pulling the shot low and left. I used to have problems with this until really learning how to squeeze the trigger for bulls-eye style pistol shooting. Look at this target of mine I shot about a year and a half ago. This was a rather expensive revolver with HOT loads, so I was squeezing extra hard. I didn't want any chance that I would drop the revolver, which is pretty darn rare, but nonetheless. You can see the results of squeezing.. http://www.practicallyshooting.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2351#Post2351 Wayne
