  1. Video of the XDs at the SHOT show range media day. "> " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">
  2. If I was standing right there and had the opportunity to shoot that beast, I wouldn't do it on a bet. I have no qualms saying that I don't like recoil and don't need to learn to flinch. Wayne
  3. Thanks guys - I finally hit 39! :-) Wayne
  4. I came home with about 2 gallons of brass, including 300 .223 Rem.. I picked up everything I could without getting in anybody's way. Wayne
  5. I just spent a week in Scottsdale at my BIL's home. We spend much quality time shooting at the Scottsdale Gun Club again this year. Quite an impressive place with 32 lanes. There is always a range master watching for potential safety issues, which is really nice that someone else is keeping an eye on the people around you too. We also went to Dillon Precision's retail showroom to buy a Super Swage 600 and a couple .223 carbide resizing dies. I asked if we could get a tour of the manufacturing area. They didn't have time, but they MADE time, which really impressed me. It was awesome to see several hundred blue frames hanging on racks waiting to be assembled. We saw their assembly, R&D, parts, and shipping areas. Everything was very clean and well organized. They are assembling and shipping about 700 presses/month now and were shipping about 1000/mo after the election. They are proud of the fact they never had anything on backorder, but it took everyone working 6 10hr days to keep up. It's very evident that Dillon is driven by quality and customer satisfaction. I'll certainly be buying more Dillon products in the future. The weather was 80F and sunny every day. I know where I'm going to retire!
  6. I called Hodgdon and asked what load data should be used with these plated bullets. The Hodgdon rep said without hesitation, "use cast lead bullet data, nothing else". That's what I'll do.. Wayne
  7. I have a some Barry's plated 200g RN bullets for 45ACP. I'm not real comfortable with how Barry's describes how to load their bullets. From Barry's website: Quote:Plated bullets occupy a position between cast bullets and jacketed bullets. They are soft lead, but have a hard outer shell on them. When loading plated bullets we have found best results using low- to mid-range jacketed data in the load manual. You must use data for a bullet that has the same weight and profile as the one you are loading. Do not exceed mid-range loads. Do not use magnum loads. This seems like pretty squishy load data to me. Does anyone here have tested load data with these bullets, or information from and of the powder manufacturers? Thanks, Wayne
  8. Pretty good review by Ian Harrison from Gun's & Ammo. "> " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">
  9. All, My Bushmaster Varminter leaves a bulge in every case that comes out of its chamber. The bulge is on one side of the case, while the other side is left unbulged. Maybe the chamber is reamed non-concentric to improve feeding?
  10. It turns out that my gas block had no set screws: My gas block post.
  11. All, Take a minute to congratulate Hittman for making the USPSA Single Stack Nationals to be held this spring in Barry, IL. I know he works hard on his skills and I sure wish I could shoot as much as him! I'll be there cheering him on and taking pictures. Wayne
  12. Hittman's failure rate so far is 0.5%, but the failure rate for CCI is very low. I think the Tula primer is fine for practice rounds, but not good for competition. Wayne
  13. I thought they would introduce the SR45 first, but this makes sense as a practice rimfire pistol for the SR9 and SR40. Not exactly the same grip as the SR9 and SR40, but very similar. I would imagine the fact that S&W has the M&P 22 influenced Ruger's decision to bring out the SR22. Wayne
  14. Hittman just shot 100 9mm loads that had the Tula small pistol primers. He reported one failure out of 100 - not bad, but not normal for the CCI primers we normally use. We'll see how the next few hundred perform. Wayne
  15. G-Man, I have both AT&T DSL & Verizon LTE, the LTE wins every time by more than an order of magnitude in both directions. Wayne
  16. Are you accessing the internet through cellular wireless?
  17. Merry Christmas to all here on practicallyshooting. Cheers to 2011 and the best for 2012. Wayne
  18. I can get Tula small pistol primers for $18.50/1000, which is about $10/1000 less than the CCI primers I've been buying. Has anyone used Tula primers? I would like to try some, but don't know how well they work. Wayne
  19. I just got the LC9 back today, which is pretty darn short turn-around by Ruger. They replaced the firing pin and the firing pin spring. Their comments say they fired 35 rounds without any troubles. I'm going to go to the range tonight or tomorrow and put a couple hundred rounds through it. I am driving to Phoenix soon and when to make sure it functions without fail before I carry it. Wayne
  20. Barry, Many good points - thanks for putting your thoughts down in words. Is your message theme of 'around the holidays' because there are statistically more bad things that happen around the holidays, or just because this is the time you bring it up? Thanks, Wayne
  21. This pretty much sums up the kind of day I've had. Hopefully it gets better!
  22. I use it entirely for trap now, but did hunt with it when I was a kid. Wayne
