  1. I don't like to talk politics here, but this letter from the NRA is a clear example of why us gun owners should be glad we have the NRA standing up for us. http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=6421
  2. I shoot at Rink's at least once every two weeks and have for years... Great people and a good small business 'feel'. Wayne
  3. I wish he would talk a bit more about the load. I understand that he wouldn't want to divulge exactly how many grains of powder he puts in the load, but it would be nice to know the powder and the velocity he gets.. Wayne
  4. Brueggma, Congrats on the new pistol. Which model did you get? I'll bet you bought it at Rink's? Wayne
  5. I picked up the Savage catalog at our local BassPro and have spent considerable time absorbing as much as I can about the model 12 line of rifles from the catalog and from articles on the internet. I've become particularly interested in the 12 LRPV Dual Port. It is a single shot that loads through the left port and ejects through the right port. This ported feature makes the action stiffer, which should increase accuracy. It would also be nice not to eject the spend cases back into your ammo can of loaded cartridges (same side load and eject). I pulled the accutrigger a few times while looking over the savage rifles. I do think it would take a while to get used to the pull of the 'first stage', but the 'second stage' is WOW good. The second stage pull can be field adjusted, which is a nice feature. The trigger break is just awesome. The thought that came to my mind when I pulled the accutrigger the first time was, "Glock Safe Action Trigger". I'm not sure if that's good or bad... Wayne
  6. My desire for an accurized Ruger Mini-14 have subsided because of cost, but my need for a backup rifle hasn't. I've read several reviews on the Savage model 12 varmint rifles and have learned that they have pretty decent triggers and most seem to be able to shoot less or equal to 1 MOA with the right ammunition. Does anyone have an opinion on the Savage 12 series? Thanks, Wayne
  7. Barry, Thanks for another great writing! Wayne
  8. Barry, You've outdone yourself, again! Thanks for educating us.. Wayne
  9. Pablo, Do you mean 38 Super? Wayne
  10. I've been considering purchasing another .223, so I'll have a second rifle to take prairie dogging out west. It would serve the as a backup rifle in case my Bushmaster had trouble and as a second shooting gun to let the Bushmaster cool between magazines. The more I think about driving 1,800 miles round trip with one rifle, the more I realize how silly it is not to have a backup. I could just buy another Bushmaster, but it could be more fun to try a different platform. I can think of several criteria I would require from a rifle. ReliableGreat triggerSemi automaticLow recoilAccurateMuzzle brake The list could go on, but those really are the main criteria. I considered a Mini-14, but stock they are simply not accurate enough for 200-400 yard shots at a PD. I did a search here and found this thread about an Accuracy Systems Mini-14. Now, I'm certainly not going to spend $6000 to accurize and accessorize a Mini, but for about $799 they will make a guarantee of sub 1" MOA. I think the end cost would be about $400 more than just buying another Bushmaster. Your thoughts? Thanks, Wayne
  11. Barry, You bring up many great points, but I'd like to add the aspect of training recency. When you do get training, don't let what you learned rust away. Make it a point to practice as much as you can and as often as you can. It might make you feel self conscious to practice drawing from your defensive rig and shooting at a cardboard target 10 feet away over and over again when others are watching. Just do it. God forbid that if you ever need to, then you might stand a chance at defending yourself. If you go through a class and never practice again, you're chances of self preservation decrease exponentially. Wayne
  12. All, I've been working on a new homepage for practicallyshooting.com. After breaking things a couple times, it's now finally up and working. You can see the new home page here. Thanks to Barry for the great content. We hope to have more up soon. Wayne
  13. Barry, Personally I really like your articles, as do others, I'm sure. Would really like to see more! Wayne
  14. You bet! We need interesting posts and posters to make this forum a go... Wayne
  15. Really great info guys - thanks! Wayne
  16. Good to know - thanks GMAN.. Do all Hi-Powers have 10lb triggers from the factory? Wayne
  17. It's really a neat revolver, but wouldn't you think they would clean it before splashing the pictures all over Gunbroker? Wayne
  18. I read an article in Handguns magazine that said the triggers on the Hi-Powers with the magazine disconnect are breaking around 10 lbs. If that's the case, then I need to find an older Hi-Power that doesn't have the magazine disconnect. Wayne
  19. I went back today to purchase and it was sold... I'll have to wait to get a Hi-Power... oh well
  20. Thanks GMAN... It's the same style of camo, but the one I saw is much lighter. Wayne
  21. I just looked on Google Images and it's so ugly I couldn't even find a picture there. Wayne
  22. If I had to bet, I'd say it was a barrel obstruction. If we could just see a picture of the inside of the barrel we would know for sure. Wayne
  23. Quote:ANY gun sales from residents of different states have to go through an FFL on the BUYER'S end. A non-FFL can ship to an FFL in another state. (Check local and state laws, too.) There are some exceptions for long gun private party transfers for bordering states. I don't pretend to know from/to which states this is allowed. I would suggest you ask an FFL in your state, then get a second opinion. Wayne
