  1. I would like to mount a red dot on my Ruger MKII, but never have because I don't want to drill any holes. I bought the pistol new when I was in college and want to maintain that brand new look, it's a sentimental thing. Is there any way to mount a scope solidly without drilling and tapping? Thanks, Wayne
  2. I have asked friends who have reloaded for many years and not one of them have had a primer go off while reloading. Personally, I have experimented to see how hard/easy they could be set off. I found that if you directly dent the primer, like a firing pin would, that you can get them to go off. However, you have to hit them darn hard and make a significant dent. I have thrown them on the floor as hard as I could and slowly crushed them in a vise, just can't get them to go off this way. My experimentation stopped when I finally got one to explode. I had no idea how much force they have or how loud they are. I did have leather gloves and safety glasses on, but the force through the leather glove left my finger bleeding and my ears rang for a while. Folks, DO NOT experiment with primers, take it from someone who had to learn the hard way. Wayne
  3. He's older and said he just didn't want to shoot it again...
  4. I friend of mine that I work with bought a S&W 500 and the dies needed for reloading. He loaded 25 factory equivalent loads, went to the range intending to shoot all 25. He shot the gun eight times when he decided he'd had enough. He decided he would probably never shoot the gun again and sold it a couple weeks later. Still has the rest of the loaded rounds, dies, and some brass if anyone is interested. Wayne
  5. Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Magnum - shot a friend's at the range. He had both 240grain loads at about 800fps, which were really nice to shoot. Then came out the 300g factory loads - not fun to shoot, but didn't kick like all the horror stories you hear. Wayne
  6. Yeah, I lady that I bought it from a Home Depot was the same lady that returned it. I just explained that there was nothing wrong, but I thought it was completely impractical and wanted to return it. Not a problem - was out of there in 2 minutes. Wayne
  7. I shot a Judge in the range one day a couple months ago. I was not impressed with the timing mechanism for the cylinder. There were a couple instances where I had to fiddle with the trigger to get the cylinder to rotate properly... The thing kicks like a mule with 3" .410 shotshells. Wayne
  8. That's really pathetic on Remington's part - what a shame.
  9. I read the recall notice on Remington's website, but it doesn't say what the actual problem is? Any idea? Wayne
  10. Glad you came over! Thanks, this is fixing to be a fun site. Wayne
  11. What is the black stuff in your barrel?
  12. I will add a rimfire forum sometime tomorrow - thanks for the suggestion. Wayne
  13. I ran a bunch of this cheap Remington ammo through my Ruger MKII and ended up with my barrel leaded so bad that it took an hour to get it all out - never again. Up to that point I had never even heard of leading in a 22LR. Wayne
  14. Ammonia is a pretty good way to get them motivated to leave. Wayne
  15. Yeah, we are a package deal... 17 years and counting. Wayne
  16. From the directions it sure looks like it disassembles the same as most of the 1911's I've seen. Wayne
  17. My wife and I both say Phoenix will be in our future.
  18. A member at our club uses this powder. Very inexpensive, but I don't know anything about it. Does anyone have experience with Rex powders? Wayne
  19. As many times as my 1911 is taken down, I would change out a sharp bushing too!
  20. We had the same type of experience a few years ago. You did the right thing by covering the trap. Two of my uncles is are biologists and both said that a skunk won't spray what it can't see. One uncle (no names to protect the guilty) has been sprayed three times trying to get skunks out of traps. This was 55 years ago when he was younger and much more foolish. The skunk we caught was in a conibear trap in a tunnel it had to run through. It was going so fast that it got most of the way through the trap and got caught just in front of the hind legs. Let me tell you that it gave up the whole nine yards. I've never smelled skunk spray that strong! I was amazed when the trapper came to collect his skunk, he showed me that skunks have no instinct left to bite. The skunk was as healthy as can be, but it couldn't get out of the trap. He actually took his gloves off so he could pet the skunk on the nose with his bare hands!! I don't think our skunks up here are a special kind of stupid, I just think they have totally lost the instinct to bite. I guess when you smell that bad, you don't have to bite anymore. Wayne
  21. Our barometric pressure here this morning was 28.90 in/Hg - that's the lowest I've seen in years. I'll bet the rapid moving low even caused a seiche on the great lakes. Wayne
  22. GMAN, Why the Ed Brown parts? I have an Ed Brown barrel & bushing in my Kimber - great products... Wayne
  23. Went out this afternoon and bought one. I'm taking it back tonight. Only cleans 10" wide swath, only throws straight ahead, and gets very heavy after a while. I think a plain old shovel is easier and faster. Wayne
  24. Just got done shoveling - 1" ice on the bottom with 6" snow on top. Not that much fun. Wayne
