I've shot a .460 Weatherby Magnum in a bolt action and you knew when it went off. Did not have a "sparkle" moment but it was something you'd only want to shoot once or twice a day. Also shot a .50 cal barrett but the .460 was "harder" on the shoulder IMO. (or maybe I was having a different day when I shot it) We shot the .460 at a 40-50 gallon plastic drum full of water (the blue ones you use for water storage) at 150 yards. You knew when you hit it! Just a wall of mist. And the ammo I shot was a FMJ (I don't even know if you can get JHP or JSP for that round?) so it was pure energy transfer. What got me was the noise that thing made. I had plugs PLUS muffs and still rang for a hour or so. IIRC it was ported so I'm sure that did not help in the noise department. I'm not into too much big stuff so I like to shoot others but would not get into it for my self. My ARs and .357/.44 mag carbines make me happy enough. If I really want to blow up jugs or such a 12 gauge slug works wonders. Take care, Bill

I own and carry the LCP .380acp pretty well everywhere. Either as a primary or BUG. The size difference is quite a bit. Even from the LCP to the LC9. The LCP is truly a pocket gun that allows many ways to carry with ease. The prices on the body guard sure have dropped. Let us know what you think Paul once you get a few hundred rounds through it. I have no concern about .380acp vs 9mm. I'm more concerned with having something vs nothing. The LCP for me allows something all the time. Pretty well ANY .380 JHP expands well with quite a bit of penetration. Even out of a pocket gun like Paul's new one or a LCP. Here is a round that I recovered; Size does matter! I've heard of that gun here. The guy who made/owns it is in the state. Something like 200 grains of Win 748! Nothing like 35 rounds per POUND just for powder... I'd shoot it. Just so I can say I did. May regret it later though. Bill

We have always used these. Cheap, they work on any size barrel and leave nothing to worry about. Bill

I'm not into the XD(M) series so that is why I said the XD series. (I don't own and won't buy one so out of my scope) Most of the XD series *are* $400 if you shop. Yes the XD(M) 5.25 are in the promotion but you will pay a LOT more for those since they are new and NOT available for any lower price than MRSP+. For most XD models they ARE available for around $400 (or a LOT closer to $400) than TWO models that are $700. Bill

Like I said in the other thread I like mine. Sights are a little narrow and I HATE the take down to clean the gun (be careful not to strip the threads. VERY easy and common) but over all I'd buy another. I don't clean it often and it seems not to care. (I do clean the barrel, just don't take it down) Put about 150 rounds down range today with it.

Wayne, One other thing. The Buckmark is prettier!

Love mine. Dad also has one. The thing I do hate about them is to take them down you have to use a screw driver and take out some screws which are in aluminum (so they strip out if you are not careful) I like my older Ruger MKII better than the Buckmark. (But will never sell either) I had a 22/45 when they came out a long time ago and it was okay. I must not have loved it since its long gone. Take care, Bill

I got to shoot one of these the other week and nice 1911! Would not cycle my light loads that I use for paper punching but it was still pretty new. Shooting 200gn LSWC it ran perfect for the 100 rounds we put through it. Very good trigger (like most 1911 these days) and the sights are EXCELLENT! I'd have no problem getting one if in the market. Ruger makes excellent weapons. Bill

Buds had them for $418 (out of stock) Same price for the 20 inch (out of stock) One on Gunbroker with starting price of $549 and NO bids (over priced IMO) So not knowing the condition of the gun if it was in clean shape with excellent wood and rifling I'd personally say around $300-$375 since they are not in stock new at Buds or Davidsons. Cabelas has Marlins for just under $500 (local one here) in .357, .44 and .45lc. The 30-30 ones were low $400s. Love my Marlins! Just a guess. Take care, bill

I had a SD9 and for the $$ it is a excellent weapon. MUCH better than a Sigma. For under $400 weapon I'd suggest it if someone wanted a full size home defense rig. If you wanted to get something that could be carried then a SR9C would be my suggestion if the person could handle a tight trigger. (when compared to normal striker ones) M&P's are quite a bit more and that is out of quite a few folks budget. Take care, Bill

Paul, My opinion is 2 things. 1. The trigger/grip. 2. Sights. The sights on the 1911 and blackhawk have longer between them and it does make a difference to someone who is having "issues" with eyesight. I'm having some problems in the last 6 months with my shooting going in the hole with some weapons and just getting slightly poor with others. I've found that shorter/smaller weapons I have a heck of a time shooting all in the black as I used too. Like above, I don't really care for the Sig bar/dot system. Either make them all dots (like the MP/XD and others) or plain black (like the 1911 and Blackhawk). The white outline with a red front sight are okay (like some Smith & Wesson) as is red front with black rear (Ruger) but for me I really like just plain sights. The way my eyes are going I'll prob be shooting rifles with scopes only within the next few years. If I slow WAY down I still can shoot the smaller weapons well, but end up with a headache. So far nothing the eye doctor has done has helped. Take care, bill

I don't know Wayne the more I've seen a 1911 "hopped" up to the more picky and prone to jams / part breakage. Agree that a Les Baer should be good to go for that many rounds with ease. I've got a friend who has one of Wilson's finest and its been perfect for close to 10k. But for close to $3k when he bought the weapon it should be. I've got one 1911 now (sold the other 2 I did have) and its been great for the thousands I've thrown down the barrel. Other then cleaning up the trigger and full length guide rod its stock. Like you never heard of the lock up. Interesting about the finish and parts breakage. I sometimes get the bug to get another full size 1911 blued weapon just because its so pretty .. (my 1911 is a Parkerized one) But when I see the one I'd like is $1000+ I kill that bug quickly. Take care, bill
