It's the design of the blow back action on the rifle. It's not strong enough for the SAAMI pressure from ANY of the .17 HMR ammo, no matter who manufactured it. The real bad part is that many people bought these rifles and paid more than double what Remington is offering on their buy back program. And then, it's only a credit for another Remington product. The return of Remington ammo gets you $10. The Remington .17 HMR ammo is O.K. in bolt guns, but not the Remington 597 autoloaders. Sounds like the rifle is at fault to me, not the ammo. I think the ammo buy back is a CYA thing.

If you think that the ammo is bad, look-up the recall on the Remington Model 597 rifles and ammo. This is a disgrace! I am not a Lawyer, but I would guess that someone will challenge this buy-back program in court. IMHO, Remington really dropped the ball on this one. I was a big Remington fan, but now......

If they were legal in California, I would buy a Taurus Judge.

My experience was the same. They are JUNK! I did buy some Remington target .22 in the 100rd. plastic container that did quite well in my BIL's .22 S&W revolver. The other .22 ammo that is overpriced and not very good for accuracy is the CCI mini-mags. My Kimber .22 conversion kit instructions recommended these so I bought a brick. There was no failure to fire or feed but the accuracy was terrible. The standard 40gr sub-sonic Remington stuff worked great and the RWS-R50 subsonic pistol ammo was the best for accuracy. The RWS stuff is all I shoot in my HS and S&W 41. A rimfire forum would be great!

Well---today it was 24 deg. this am. No snow but a little cold. Went and shot skeet this am. I didn't realize how cold my adjustable comb was. I did put some mole skin on it and made it a little more comfortable.

I will try and find out today. I shoot with some pretty savy older gentlemen on wednesdays. One of them will know.

My Chronograph is 22 years old and still works great. It's an Oehler 35p. I was just wondering if anybody has any experience with some of the newer models and if they like them or not. When I was at the gun shop yesterday, they had a Remington chronograph for $120. One extra skyscreen for mine cost that! Oehler no longer sells to the general public, so I am looking for a possible replacement if mine ever dies.

My new 442 came in yesterday. There was a letter in the box about destroying the old gun. They shipped the new 442 in the old box with the old serial number. I would of thought they would of at least changed the label on the box with the new number. Oh well. In 10 days, I will give a try again.

Probably 2 reasons. They don't make a 10 round magazine for it yet and they might not have submitted it to the Ca DOJ for the stupid drop tests.

Woke up this am, went out to get the paper and was greeted with snow flakes falling. I have not seen snow here since 1998. Glad I am off today. Staying home and cleaning guns today that I shot over the weekend. Maybe a little .410 reloading also.

Boy, GMAN, thats a tough call. Do you have to qualify with the firearm you intend to carry? Can you qualify with both handguns? My stepson who is now a Correction's Officer asked me what to carry for his CCW. I told him to pick a gun, go buy the airsoft copy and carry it for a week of two to see if you like it and is comfortable. He did just that and bought a Glock 19 for his CCW.

Well, I will have to check that out. I didn't change the magnification setting all day, leaving it on 15x. Eye relieve was o.k. @15x, but the recoil on this rifle is almost non-existant and I really didn't pay attention to it.

After putting an inferior scope on my Anschutz 1517 MPR to start, I purchased this Bushnell on the recommendation of my local gunsmith. The scope is very good for the under $300 I paid for it. It is clear and has a great field of view on the higher magnifications. AO markings on the objective lens match up with the distances. The fast focus rear lens make set up a breeze. The 1/4 MOA clicks are very precise. After zeroing the rifle, I played around with the adjustments and they were dead on. The lack of target turrets and maybe 1/8 MOA adjustments are my only small complaints. The duplex reticle is fine enough for serious target work. The new RainGuard coating and a free jacket sealed the deal. My other choice would of been a Leupold 4-14x50 VariX3. At twice the price, there is no question about Leupold's quality and service. For now, the Bushnell will do quite nicely.

Wayne, You might want to give Winchester 231 a try. It's a small spherical powder that meters very well. When I actually reloaded for .45acp in a Dillon 550, thats what I used and it was very consistant, both with powder drops and velocity strings over a chronograph. It was really accurate.

I will as soon as I get my wireless Broadband back. I am now using my old laptop and piggybacking on my neighbors wirelees router. My desktop is useless without it.

Took it out today with the new glass. WOW. After playing at 50yds with a couple of sub .2 groups, I went to the 100yd line. After adjusting the scope for a 100yds., the very first 5 shot group was .202. This is my first Anschutz but probably not my last. Ammo was Federal 17gr poly tip. Can't wait for a little better weather and a little less wind.

I usually try and stay with the jacketed hollow points of a medium weight range. I still like the Winchester Silvertips and have a lot of the first generation Black Talons for various calibers.

My friends G-23 did the samething to his middle finger. We actually got out the dremel and smoothed that spot on the trigger housing. One problem he had was the ammo he was using. It was the Winchester Q-Load, 180gr. I had him switch over to the Winchester Ranger 155gr JHP's and the recoil was much more managable, and a lot easier to shoot. Another friend has a S&W M&P compact 40 S&W. He is a very good pistol shooter and he had a real problem with the recoil of the 40 180gr loads. It physically hurt his hands to shoot it! He switched over to a lighter bullet load and is much happier. In the compact pistols, at least in the 40's, the common thread is the recoil and muzzle jump of the heavier bullet 40S&W ammo. I think that the small size and light weight of the pistols contribute to this. Choose your ammo carefully.

Rumor has it that all frames will be RTF(rough textured finish). It will have a removable and adjustable backstrap. Double spring recoil guide rod. Reversible magazine release lever.( if you change to the left side , only the new magazines will work, the old mags will still work if it remains on the r/side). I reserve judgement until I actually see and handle one for myself. My gen II and III glocks work well for me. We will see.

I don't remember where, but I was searching the net for ammo during the frenzy and someone had some Armscor .22 ammo for sale. I just don't remember where it was.

I have actually seen 2. One was a Glock 22 with Federal ammo. The 40 S&W case seperated at the base and blew the magazine out and actually broke the frame. No harm to the shooter, just shook up a little bit. The second was a Smith & Wesson 1917. The shooter was shooting factory .45 acp Winchester 230 ball and the top strap disappeared. He wasn't hurt but the gun was destroyed. It was almost like it was severly out of alignment. Never really fiqured that one out.
