wwillson
I don't know if I'm bad luck or what, but I saw another 1911 go kaboom this weekend. The shooter was in an IDPA match and instead of stopping when the gun didn't fire, he just racked that slide and... kaboom... Shooter ok, slide and frame ok, but pride hurt. The barrel was split all the way from the muzzle to within 1/2" from the hood. Took about 10 minutes to get the bushing off and the barrel out. The barrel was not in pieces like this one. wwillson
hittman,I looked in the barrel and saw the tell-tale 'ring' of lead where the two bullets slammed together and the bulge at the point of the ring. I don't now how it could be anything but a squib. Nothing else makes sense. Anyone?Wayne
RLH70
Sounds like someone did not check the cases after they charged them with powder?
wwillson
Sounds like someone did not check the cases after they charged them with powder? Meaning a squib, or double charge?
RLH70
Meaning a squib, sounds like there was insufficient powder or no powder at all.I always go over every case visually after charging before seating a bullet to make sure A. I have the correct amount of powder and B. I don't have a double charge. Though that is easier when using a single stage.
