I bought some .224 Hornady VMAX bullets today. I was surprised when I opened the package and saw that the bullets are in a plastic bag with what looks like graphite powder.

Any idea what this powder is? Why is the powder in the bag?

You didn't mention they were moly coated in the original post.

I believe the powder is there to act as sort of a cushion to help keep the moly coating on the bullet.

That second pic wasn't there when I made my post.

Odd. Are you sure that isn't moly powder in the bag? I just bought some moly coated .224 75g's and they're loose in the box like the pic RHL70 posted. I usually coat my own but these were on sale cheap.

The V-Max bullets are super accurate by the way...

I have one rifle that always has a good bit of copper in it when I clean it, no matter how little I shoot it.

Shooting 100+ moly bullets through it will show less copper than shooting 10 or 20 bare bullets.
