How to clean lead deposits from aluminum mold?

Recommended Posts

All,

You'll see at the red arrows that my Lee mold has a lead build up at the bottom of each cavity. I've tried plastic scrapers, with little success. I really don't want to use a knife or an awl, as those will scratch the mold. I've thought about heating the lead to melt or soften then scrap it off, but I'm afraid of warping the mold.

Any ideas?

Wayne

Tom,

The soldering iron worked like a champ. It heated the lead up just enough that I could wipe it off with bronze wool. Now the deposits are gone and I'm ready to start casting .452 bullets again!
