wwillson Posted November 17, 2009 Report Share Posted November 17, 2009 A member of our trap club was showing me two identical choke tubes - one brand new, the other had been shot many times. Both were clean and free of any visible defects. When screwed in the used choke tube was fairly tight, while the new tube dropped in and turned with little effort - noticeably different. The only reasonable explanation is that the used tube had stretched to a slightly larger diameter. Moe Posted November 19, 2009 Report Share Posted November 19, 2009 This can happen if the installed choke was loose. Some people hand tighten thier extended chokes and forget to keep tightening them. If allowed to shoot loose, they will deform and expand. I always lube them up and use a tool to tighten them. The sporting clays guys usually don't do this because they are changing chokes after every station. I have even seen Dewalt drills used for changing chokes!If you keep them lubed and tight, they will be good for a very long time.
