mjoekingz28
I just got my Mossberg Persuader 500 (shorty) and just cleaned it for the second time. This isnt so much a problem on my P95 since the barrel is so short, but anyway. I got the Hoppe's shotgun and rifle cleaning kit from Academy and am unsure about a few things. The rods look like brass and I'm worried they may be scratching the bore and while its not pretty when looking through it at a light source, I'm wondering will it promote rust and any other problems later on.Its not just the rods, its the adapter you attach to the end to connect to the brush and/or slotted tip. It looks like aluminum but could be steel since its heavy, but then again it has no rust visible. When I work it through the bore I cannot perfectly align my arm through the stroke and I get somescratching noise. thanks
wwillson
I believe this is the kit you have? These rods are brass and will not scratch your barrel. What type of shot have you fired through the barrel? Any steel or other kinds of non-toxic?Wayne
xtell
Try a Dewey coated cleaning rod and bore mop one gauge larger that the gauge of your shotgun. I wrap some masking tape around the mop adapter to prevent metal to metal scratching.
