dnewton3
Any specific experiences with the Rock Island brand, especially in .45?Very little turned up in my search here.Looking for an inexpensive plinker (well - as cheap as plinkin' with a .45 can be ...) Pablo
I've never owned one. But almost bought one. My only real input is most folks are happy with them and they can be very serviceable and even modded up nicely. I like the under $500 part! jjjxlr8
My friend has one of these 1911 pistols and I've shot it a couple of times. I can't remember the exact model but it was one of the tactical versions. Very nice pistol. Fit and finish were very good and it functioned flawlessly. dnewton3
Thank you, gentlemen. Good info.I like what I see; 1911 Gov model for around $450 out-the-door. Kind of hard to turn that down. Surely there are "better" (higher end) makes, but I think this will be a good tool to familiarize my son with the 1911. Win
I have two .45's: a 1911 Tactical, and the compact model. I'm very pleased with both, completely trouble free. I shoot the full size all the time. The stock grips blow. I put some traditional walnut double diamond checkereds on the full size, and a wrap around Hogue on the compact. At the risk of being heretical, I think of 1911's as a commodity gun. I have the two RI's as commodity 1911's, and a Colt O 1918 WW 1 replica for a "real" 1911. These are my only points of reference, FWIW.
