  1. Having completely disassembled my Mark II many times over the years, I would recommend a couple things. Take several pictures as you disassemble and don't get distracted with anything else until you get everything back together and working properly. It's not rocket science, but it's not a simple task either.

BTW - I've done nothing to the trigger in my Mark II except keep it very clean. The trigger has aged to near perfection and I wouldn't spend a dime to try to make it better.

  2. Barry,

It reminds me of the S&W 617 w/10 rounds. Hittman had one for years, which I really liked to shoot. Unfortunately, he didn't listen to me when I told him not to sell it. The nice feature of the 617 was that you could dump all 10 spent cases with one push of the ejector. With the Single ten it's one hole at a time... I'd prefer the 617 myself.

  3. I got back from shooting PD's three weeks ago and put my ARs back in the safe. I got them out last weekend to clean and found green corrosion on the back of the bolt of my brand new Bushmaster! It wasn't too bad yet, but nonetheless, it was there. What in the powder/primer leaves a residue that's corrosive? I'm I misguided in believing that smokeless powder rifles don't need to be cleaned immediately after use?

    Thanks,

  4. We had our annual "Bob Ash Handicap" shoot Thursday night. Good food, good friends, and lots of fun. It was extremely windy and the scores across the board were not high. Joe Kuhn was HOA and man was he on fire - he's a member here, maybe he'll speak up..

Scott posted some pictures at trapshooters.com

Our local cable channel came out and interviewed some of our members. Judy, who was interviewed, is one of the best shooters at the club - go Judy!

  5. Seems like the auto powder dispensers have the potential to drop a much more consistent charge than the powder measures on a progressive press. I've found that the stick powders are the hardest to get a consistent drop with on a progressive measure. Which powder(s) have you used with the auto dispenser?

  6. We stayed at Antler Ridge Lodge, which is primarily a pheasant and deer hunting outfit. They said there were plenty of prairie dogs and that they would talk to the landowners to get permission for us. We arrived and were greeted by the owners and shown our lodge where we would be staying. I think the lodge just might be the nicest hunting lodge on the planet. It was almost new, super clean, and suitable to raise a family in... Our lodge has a full kitchen, satellite TV, a pool table, and private bathroom.

The prairie dog hunting was not the best as the dogs acted like they had never heard a gunshot. As soon as we started shooting the dogs were all below ground within a few minutes. Normally they will come back up after five or ten calm minutes, but not these PD's. We would wait for at least thirty minutes and maybe see one or two. I believe the problem was that they really hadn't been shot at much if any and that they weren't hungry. The fields in the spring are green and lush, which means that there was plenty for them to graze on. I'd bet in the fall when the grass is brown and dried up after baking in the sun that they would be much more willing to come back out of their holes. Hunger makes PD's stupid... We might have had better shooting in the fall.

My cousin and I both grew up in farm country in Iowa, where pheasants were plentiful. I can honestly say that I have never seen so many pheasants in my life as what we saw around the Antler Ridge Lodge area. If you are looking for a place to hunt pheasants, then Antler Ridge is your place!

We decided to go back to my hometown a day early so we'd have a full day to bang gong targets. We set up 200, 300, 350, and 400 yard gongs. I think between three shooters, we expended about 1000 rounds of 223 Rem banging the gongs! We took a couple hours of video, which I'll post as soon as I get it edited.

  7. I've been loading Alliant Steel powder lately for heavy steel shot loads. It's pretty well understood that Steel powder required magnum primers. I've loaded a few boxes with non-magnum primers and have experienced some mild ignition inconsistency, which I expected. I expect more consistent ignition with magnum primers as they are 'hotter'.

I've never understood what 'hotter' really means. Is the temperature of the gas coming out of the primer a higher temperature, or is there a larger volume of gas at the same temperature?

    Thanks,

  8. We are leaving for SD to shoot prairie dogs soon. I picked up some Barnes CR-10, which is a copper and lead fouling remover.

    I have always heard that ammoniated bore cleaners would corrode barrels. To the contrary, this is a quote from Barnes' website;

    Quote:
We have had calls asking if CR-10 will damage your rifle bore. The answer is, no. Let me explain. CR-10, along with most other copper cleaning solvents, contains ammonia to remove the copper. Ammonia attracts moisture, which in turn causes the clean steel to rust very quickly. We have tested barrels submerged in it for 18 months without any damage to the barrel. An oil patch is also recommended after cleaning to prevent the rust process. Using CR-10 will NOT damage bores.

Anyone use Barnes CR-10 or similar products? How well do they remove fouling? Is there a better way?

    Thanks,

  9. Brueggma met myself and another shooting friend of mine at one of the local ranges this weekend. It's really fun to put a name to a face and build that 'shooting buddy' network. Brueggma may be a fairly new shooter, but sure handled himself like a pro. Not a single time did I feel like I was shooting with someone I needed to keep a watchful eye on. I hope he had a good time and enjoyed shooting a variety of guns. After shooting his Glock, I think I might be closer to becoming a Glock owner.
