All,
I'm going to buy an AR15 action block so I can remove my hand guard and barrel nut safely. Any opinions on who makes a good quality and versatile block?

Thanks Brueggma,
I'm just not into painted guns.. I'll save the trip.

Brueggma,
Did you see any used 9mm Glocks at Cabela's?

It's been a day for reading American Hangunner articles. This article about STI International 2011 really piqued my curiosity about the 2011 platform. I have been thinking about a purchasing a 1911 chambered in 9mm, but the 2011 does seem to have some bennefits in weight and capacity. Anyone own/owned a 2011? I would be curious what your impressions/opinions are.

jjjxlr8,
A big WELCOME to our forum! We have many great members and I think you find it's a good place to share and learn.
Great pictures, which I'll ping Hittman and make sure he sees them.
Thanks,

All,
I was reading this article in American Handgunner magazine today and came across the FMK 9C1B pistol, which I have never heard of. It's American made in Placentia, CA. The slide is engraved with the Bill of Rights and the grip serrations are micro engraved with the names of some of our founding fathers - pretty cool.
Anyone own one? I wonder how they perform?

How many books is this now Gary? More to come?

Mine look like that but have more powder residue over the length of the shell.
Thanks, Wayne!
Jim,
Pictures are great.. :-)

Jim,
This is a hull I reloaded probably 10+ times. You can see that the more you reload the more powder residue the hull will have, it's perfectly normal.
Happy Reloading,

BillT,
Good to know, I'd like to own one, but didn't want the expense of accurizing. This is certainly a step in the right direction for the mini.

Looks like you've been having some serious fun helping the economy!
Quote:These newer models have the thicker barrels, along with Ruger's improved method of attaching the gas block that is supposed to help eliminate tweaking and stress in the barrel itself.
I hadn't heard that Ruger changed the gas block. Do you know where the changes are documented?

I made some more changes today - added the 'articles' and 'recent forum posts' widget to the right side.

xtell,
I ended up shooting the rest of my IMR4064 25.5g behind a 55g BTSP loads. Really a great load, but the 4064 doesn't meter the best on a progressive press. I'm about to buy some H-335 (unless there is a better suggestion?)

Barry,
This year they had much more rain than usual, hence the vegetation. Last year the prairie dogs had the ground pretty much eaten bare.

Posted a few pictures for you enjoyment.

I second Barry's thoughts on reloading as it's almost a requirement if you do any volume of shooting. I hope you've been getting to Rink's frequently? I haven't been there all summer, it's just too hot in there for me, but fall is here!

About 1,500 rounds in 5 hours of shooting.. :-) I can't wait to go back!

My cousin and I just got back from a fun time shooting prairie dogs in Faith, SD. This video is a sweep of the area we were shooting.

Crashbox,
Teflon tape is a great idea! I have some in the drawer beside my press, but didn't think of it.
Thank You,

I own both a XD and a XDm. The XD is every bit as good of a gun as the XDm. If I were in the market for one, I'd easily choose the less expensive XD over the newer more expensive XDm.
Just my $.02,

Dave,
I've been considering the S&W M&P .22 and the CMMG conversion for the AR-15. Any thoughts on the CMMG vs the S&W M&P .22?
Thanks,

While an accurized mini would be fun. I would pick up another AR then you have another rifle with the same parts and magazines. I have been selling off the odds and ends and getting several of the same of exact rifle/handguns because of the same parts and mags and ammo .
Steve,
We think alike - exactly what I did, bought another AR.

Several Remington 870's have suffered cracked receivers at the trap club where I shoot. I know the loads that each shooter shoots in their guns and they loads are certainly not 'hot' loads. The only thing I can think of is that it's simply a fatigue problem. All of the cracked receivers have been fired over 20,000 times. Is the 870 known to crack when fired extensively? If that's the case, maybe I'll stop using my 870 for trap. I bought it brand new when I was 14 and would hate to end up with a garbage 870 Wingmaster.

Which AR15 Armorer's Action Block?

Barry,
I see what you are saying about using barrel vise jaws vs an upper receiver block to remove the barrel nut. A twisting force is still applied to the upper receiver if you use the receiver block, but if you use barrel vise jaws, no force is ever applied to the upper - much better concept.
I think this would be a good set of vise jaws.
However, with the free floating handguard on my varminter I think a receiver block is still necessary. The handguard is extremely tight to the point where considerable torque needs to be applied to break it loose. I'm afraid I would cause damage without some kind of a block to reenforce the upper while removing the handguard.
