  1. I bought one of the Rock Island 1911A1's a couple of weeks ago. Hope to get to the range this evening or Saturday to shoot it. I haven't seen one in .38 Super at the shops I frequent, but if I do see one, I'll probably buy it to give it a try.
  2. Yes. Very accurate, using only the iron sights. Yes, took it straight from the box, shot two bricks of Winchester Wildcat through it, with only one misfire. $449, back in September; mags are an extra $25 or so each. A mag will last 4-5 seconds. Not just yes, but heck yes!
  3. I know, Bob, it's just not a high priority. I have others I can shoot. That Px4 Storm .40 was the first firearm I bought in over twenty five years, and it is my least favorite. I have the Px4 compact in 9mm and the Cx4 carbine in 9mm, and they're fine. But it is kinda irritating that it won't reliably cycle the same ammo that a $160 Hi Point has no problems with. You all get much snow?
  4. The .40 JCP and .45 JHP are also a lot of fun. I think I paid $159 each for mine. I've never shot my C9. I loaned it to a friend, and it's in his safe now!
  5. Nice Glock, I've looked at that one a time or two but not sure I'm ready to go over to the Glock side. I'm not even sure I want any more poly pistols at all. They went through that ammo pretty quick, didn't they? I got five boxes Sunday night (the limit) when the ad first came out. I think it was the steel cased ammo that was supposed to have been pictured instead of the brass, so I doubt the brass will show back up until the sale is over. I picked up two (2) of the Sarsilmaz (sp?) Hancers they were closing out for $278.88/each.
  6. I hope to shoot my FEG over the weekend. What ammo were you shooting in the FEG? I ask because I have a Beretta Px4 Storm .40 that stovepipes badly on Monarch (Academy) .40 S&W ammo, but is mostly fine with other branded ammo that seems to be loaded to a higher pressure. I have not had any issues with the Academy 9mm, in brass or steel, however.
  7. IIRC, my FEG was marked C.A.I. as the importer with a Vermont address. I would go look, but it's in the safe at the office. I'm not surprised yours has a high level of fit, that FEG I got has superb fit and finish. At the prices, they are a steal if they shoot even halfway decent. Let us know how yours shoots.

    .40 S&W OR .45 ACP?

.40S&W is cheap and easy to find around here, about $13 for a box of 50. It is the easiest to find of all the common calibers. .45ACP is harder to find, and about 40% more expensive when available. For home defense at our primary home, it's .45ACP. At our secondary home, I hope to put a CZ 75 SP01 in .40S&W into service, assuming my wife can shoot it OK. For personal defense at my office, I keep either a Hi Point .40 or .45 in my desk, sometimes both. For target shooting/plinking, personally I think .40S&W comes across as a little harsh, particularly in a polymer pistol.
  9. So what is the going rate for a "real" Browning Hi Power these days? A dealer nearby has a couple of Brownings, he claims they were part of his collection, they look unfired, one is duotone nickel and matte with adjustable sights; another is nickel with a wrap around grip. He wants $900 for either, out the door. That's about $800 each because of our confiscatory sales tax. IIRC, they were Portugese assembled. I don't need another gun, but I tell myself that same thing every time I buy another gun.
  10. It is a P9R. I have had a bit of a chance to read up on it this morning. Seems to have little in common with the original HP other than outward appearance. It sure is a nicely made piece, and has a good feel in the hand. I'm up at our house at the lake, waiting for a gun safe to be delivered (since 8:00 AM, thanks Lowe's), and if it ever gets here, I may go back out to the indoor range and blast a few rounds through it. Let us know how yours looks when you get it in hand.
  11. I can't see your picture, but I bought a "new and improved" FEG Hi Power last night. The obvious differences I see are that the hammer has a tang on it; a decocker on the slide instead of the safety on the frame; the pivot area around the slide release looks cleaner; the trigger is thicker and shaped differently, and my grips are not as "aged". Still, anyone who looks at it would immediately recognize it as a Hi Power. I overpaid, probably, I gave $289 for the FEG; it looks brand new and the quality of the fit and finish is as good as any Hi Power I have seen. The bluing is about the best I have seen. I'm an accumulator, not a collector. I may give this one to my wife. Shot yours yet?
  12. I sliced a chunk off the end of my right thumb when I was a teen ager, right about down to the tip of the bone, it was hanging by a good flap so they stuck it back on. The problem I have is not with feeling in the pad - it's the feeling in the tip. It has always felt like there is little to nothing between the finger tip and the bone. I think you will be able to shoot fine, but it may take you awhile to get used to the feel of your new finger, and hopefully it won't look too funky. My thumb looks like I cut the end off of it and somebody stuck it back on ....
  13. I bought a CZ 75 SP01 Tactical in .40S&W last Friday. I could be very happy with it as my only pistol.
  14. That's a tough question. I guess I would have to choose the HK USP .45 in full size. My wife has a Sig P220 carry, also in .45, and it is a nice gun. Third choice would be the Beretta 92FS. I think I would be OK with any one of these, but the HK would be my first choice.
  15. Yeah, the last election rekindled my interest ... If you like that C9, you would really like the Hi Point 40 and 45. Both are a lot of fun, and very accurate. I just clean my HP's as best I can; I don't think its necessary to tear them down very often.
