  1. Seems every company now makes a 1911 and an AR15 of varying quality. I would buy the Ruger after all the recalls are done with. Every Ruger I have owned and sold have been flawless. But the only 1911s I will own will have no known MIM parts. Other guns can but I'll stand my ground on the 1911s. If they don't cost big bucks they are not worth owning.

  2. I really like Lepould scopes for this one reason , My dad bought a 300 weatherby in 1961 "I went with him I really hate the rifle though" and it had a Lepould scope on it . In 1995 I took the rifle out to shoot it and found the coating on the lens coating peeling, I called lepould and told them the story and that I had no proof of purchase etc. The Lepould rep.said to ship it in the scope has a lifetime warranty and there was a 2 week turn around time.

  3. I quit using unique powder in the 80s because it was really dirty now I have 4 lbs of Win. 231 for the only reason it was cheap and I'll use it for plinking use ,,, who woulda thunk it. Will the loads be target type loads ? This is one of the things that makes reloading so much fun IMO. I am now just shooting the reloads I did in the late 80s. They are 296 and unique. These days I never do max loads . The 357 loads were max loads and the 296 seem way hotter than the unique. Even though I am on a sell the guns I am not using mode the 8 shot Smith 357 seems to interest me.

  4. I do not know why I don't shoot it. There are certain guns that I usually pick and the Garand for some reason isn't one of them. I used to have some real nice MIAs years ago and I sold them. I really am not into rifle shooting I prefer to shoot pistols to me it is more fun . "can't shoot good enough on a consistant basis too be happy about shooting a rifle" I suck big time! I shot a DCM match to qualify for a Garand with an AR.

  5. I cain't afford the 1911 I want. So I ain't getting a 1911.

You probably will be happier with out, than with one you are not happy about. My self I would like a top end race gun and all the goodies but I can't justify $5,000.00 for a 1911. 1911s are cool but I wouldn't buy one,it is better to shoot someone elses 1911. The plastic guns are a better value for the $$$$ and will last as long or longer.

    You mean like Steve S.?

I have shot many 1911s in various calibers and I can honestly say the more they cost the better they are to shoot . I am sure I have posted this before but I'll do it again. I was able to shoot a full out 1911 race gun It cost the guy big bucks more than I would spent. I finally realized what the term a trigger that feels like a glass rod breaking and accuracy means, I could go on and on. I also been able to shoot many times my buds Wilson combats he has two, very nice. I have shot many big buck customs ,Colt Gold Cups ,high end Springfields and Kimbers. None were mine. I really am impressed with the Dan wesson line they are really a bargain for what you get. You may be able to buy a bottom end GI 1911 that works just fine but a higher end 1911 will make life worth living as far as 1911s go. I would rather have a Glock S@W M@P or an XD etc. than a low end 1911.
  7. Reloading is simple and to me lots of fun. I really like the progressive machines. Though single stages work nice I learned to reload on one. There is a learning process. Most reloading manuals give good instructions and you want to at first load a dozen and try them out. Having an unfired cartridge to copy is nice as you are remanufacturing the cartridge. There is a learning curve and I am always learning.

  8. I wouldn't buy a Llama anything. I bought two 380s in 1976 to carry when I traveled. They were cheap so If I lost them through the airlines no biggie. I would not ever buy a Llama. As for a 1911 there is nothing finer than a high quality manufactured one. The more you spent the happier you will be. Dan Wessons are really nice. Most 1911s over a $1000.00 start to be good. I am a stickler about 1911s.
