  1. Thinking of picking up a new Mossberg M590A1 with ghost rings, 18.5 inch barrel to keep my Rem 870 and Winchester 1300 company.

By the time I'm done with tax it will be out the door for well under $250. It would be a excellent in the trunk weapon at times. And with my 17 year old daughter thinking that the Winchester 1300 is hers I'd like to have another "riot" type weapon. (when she turns 18 she may get it)

Also any comments on a Mossberg Super Bantam 22in 20 gauge? Can get that for under $200..

    Thanks in advance! Bill

  2. i need a new varmint scope. any thoughts? for a .223 ar

I've got this on 2 of my AR-15s and its been great. Now with full disclosure I've NOT shot a 1000 rounds in one sitting with it but so far no problems with maybe 100 rounds in a session.

    (pardon the normal mess)

Total rounds down range with both are in the thousands. Its not an Leupold (I've only had a couple) but neither is the price. grin

Nikon also makes some nice optics. My cousin has this one mounted on his AR and its been great too.

    What is your budget? Use?

    Take care, Bill

  3. Was there any issues with the weapon (short stroking for one example) during the 1000 + rounds that you shot it between cleanings?

Most likely its a loose gas tube. But if the weapon is functioning fine I'd prob just leave it and clean it every so often. If you want to *try* to prevent it I'd first suggest cleaning it as well as you can then put some red or green locktite around the gas tube/block area. (take the upper and orient the muzzle down and then allow the locktite to form a seal. Use a toothpick with a drop at a time to spread around the junction Less is more here (don't want to clog it))

Some MFG go ahead and dab the gas tube in the locktite and then assemble it to prevent anything like this from happening.

I'd put my vote in the its not normal but if its not affecting the operation of the bolt I'd put it in the pain in the rear category. grin

    Take care, Bill

  4. Can you use the mags/clip out of your XDm in a XDc if you got one?

With my M&Pc I carry it with the smaller mag/clip in it but a larger one on the belt. So in a 9mm almost 30 rounds with 2 mags/clips plus one in the chamber. (If I can't take care of "business" with that much I'd better just throw the pistol at the perp or save the last round for myself)

Also, will the holster you have for the XDm work for the XDc? With the Crossbreed that I use either the full size or compact work fine.

If the above will work with each other, I'd prob suggest to get a XDc as you just doubled the mag/clips for it and hopefully the leather will work. Plus its the same platform so nothing "new" to learn.

With that said, I really LIKE the M&Pc and check out a Ruger SR9C. I may have Crossbreed make me a setup for it before the end of the year.

    Take care, Bill

  5. Okay, since now I've seen a photo of it I'll up my offer to $30 AND

    Wait for it.... grin

    I'll PAY for shipping!

I know, I'm way too nice but I always want to be fair!

Nice find! Really would love to score something like that. Next time I'm over at my Uncles I'll take a pic of his old press that he uses all the time. Its prob close to 60-70 years old.

What was it covered with to keep it in such great condition?

    Take care, bill

    PS: Lee dies! t-up

  6. I've got a few AR models. A Bushmaster HBAR 20", Stag 6H (24" bull barrel flat top), Stag 2H, A few DPMS, A few Spikes Tactical (both in .223 and 22lr). Built all the lowers with Stag, Doublestar, DPMS, RockRiver and Spikes parts.

No compete. Just out to have fun at the range mostly. A lot of target and anything that goes splat when you hit it (milk jugs, cans, bottles and such)

My Dad is up in MT right now (one of my Sisters lives up there) and having him get me a case of small rifle primers for $24/1000. Figure 5000 will do me for a little bit. Down here the best I can find (if they are in stock) is $33/1000.

Sad thing is I've still got some that are marked .99/100! And that was not too long ago...

    Take care, Bill

  7. Wow!

Looks like a "blast" and ONE THOUSAND rounds in 6 HOURS?? t-up

How often did you clean the gun or did you go for all 1000 between cleanings? (I've gone about 500 rounds before cleaning.. Only because I felt guilty not because of operation)

Yeah, Understand the table for each of you (looks like a Lifetime table. Have the same one and a good Utah company!) as once either shoots you loose the sight.

Glad to hear that the trip was a success. Looks like a jacket was needed..

    Thanks for the update/post!

  8. When I had a Glock 21 it was a good gun but sold all of them when the S&W M&P came out.

Did not shoot lead bullets too much with the Glock but when I did it was not accurate at all. Leaded up a little too.

Of all my Glocks it was my 2nd favorite one after my Model 23.

I have not shot one of the new Glock 21SF. My Experience is with 1st through 3rd generations.

  9. But if the cylinder to barrel gap was excessive which has been a problem that could accelerate wear/damage even with the insert there.

They have done tests and with the mag loads with lighter bullets (125gn) there is more possible cutting than with heaver ones.

    Bill

  10. I shot both grips on the LCR and for me the Crimson Trace grip would make me NOT want a LCR if I could only get it with their grip.

The stock grip is VERY well designed and I'm impressed. With my Mod 638 I ended up getting a Hogue which improved the gun quite a bit.

With a SP101 its really not too much fun shooting .357 mag loads. Take off 10-15oz and no I'm not going to be a fan...

  11. I think you are correct with the gap cutting. The shield was there I'm sure.

Seen this myself. In a snub a .38+p is about as much as you are going to want to and get the most out of a short barrel. For the .357 you really need a lot longer barrel.

I'll stick with my proven S&W 638 or a Ruger LCR with 38+p thank you!

  12. The plot thickens.. confused

Same measure here. I wonder if they have changed the powder then (all of my Clays (either straight or universal)) have no problems with them metering correctly. I bought quite a bit back in 90s and then some more back in 2003-04 and still working off that stash.

When loading I check every 10 rounds for the first 50 loads then every 50 after. Try to keep the hopper above 1/2 full.

The only problem I have at times is the static electricity since we don't have much humidity here. Its a pain to get all the powder out of the hopper when done.

    Bill

  13. Interesting. Do you have a RCBS measure? That is the only one that I've got that has "issues" with Clays (and Unique among others)

I like the Hodgdon line of powders also. Mostly Clays, Universal HP38/W231 and H110/W296.

The 200Gn LSWC is what I use the most of in the .45acp. I like how they look on paper.

With the 9mm, I pretty well load only 115gn FMJ as I bought a large amount of those back in the late 90s and still going with them. I load a few JHP to duplicate my carry load and pop milk jugs but the cost of those have shot up (pun intended) in the last few years.

    Take care, Bill

  14. Yeah his loads are on the "warm" side. Even in my Blackhawk or GP100 I'd not shoot those. Anytime you have the brass that hard to extract things are not good. How were the primers?

My hot .357 loads are either 2400 or 296/H110. Bluedot is what I'm using with the .357sig.

    NICE SHOOTING!

    Bill

  15. Sounds good!

I found the same about the grip. Some guys I know who have that pistol went with some skateboard tape or a Hogue slip on grip.

Personally I'd get used to it. I'm not a fan of adding width to a double stack grip.

Target looks good. I'll make sure that I don't get in your way!

The Poly framed firearms are pretty nice!

    Thanks for the report.

    Bill

PS: What load were you shooting?
