The small amount I've shot it so far I didn't notice the "hinged" part of the trigger which was a major concern of mine. Poor triggers bug me a lot. I'll give it a trigger job, there are some very detailed instructions from a M&P specialist floating around on the internet.
Being made in-house by Smith & Wesson (American company) in the US (American workers) is something I like about the M&P. Neither of those is true about the XD. I don't have an issue with imported products when they are good performers but it's a bonus when I can get something all American.

Full size just like that but without thumb safety.
I never cared for the Sigma because it always seemed like a reaction to the Glock just to get something on the market (I may be wrong).

I went to the range and tried out a couple pistols today including the Springfield XD. I was leaning toward the XD or M&P. Couldn't really find fault with any of them but the M&P felt better in my hand and seemed to point and reset on target faster for the way I hold a pistol.
I have some practice to do! Although I've shot semi-auto pistols a bit in the past I've never owned one. This is the first "new" gun I've bought in 15 years!

That texture is out on a special edition right now. I looked/held it at a local gun shop last week. It is very sharp, maybe too sharp for bare skin but certainly has a ton of grip/friction.

I looked at a Winchester Mod. 52 at the gun shop yesterday. It is a neat rifle!
I think for the price the 10/22 is hard to beat but if I were a serious shooting target shooter I'd get something like an anshutz.

Hola amigos! Como estas?

Saw quite a few of them at a cowboy action shootout. A lot of them used brass hulls.

I've shot .44 mag out of a Desert Eagle. Just like Dan1045 mentioned, the gun is so heavy there is not much recoil.
A friend just got a .454 casull I'll have to try out.

I'd like to shoot registered sex offenders, does that count?

They can be sold to law enforcement in Calif.
From what I've read, including from a Springfield employee (FWIW), they are simply tired of playing California's expensive certification game. Apparently every variation of each model has to be certified, i.e. identical pistols but one has a SS slide = seperate certification for each.
Calif. also requires that the gun cannot fire with the mag removed.
The XD was introduced before the certification rule so it can be sold here.

My local shop has the XDm also but for LEO sales only. It's not on the State of Calif. approved list.

I enjoy my Single Six also. It's a "convertible" so I can shoot .22 mags also.
I also have a colt detective special in .38 S&W. The barrel is so short I'm not sure the bullets don't come out sideways!

I've been shooting since I was a little kid. My grandpa would take me out with a BB gun and shoot behind his house (on a ranch) I just shoot for fun and enjoy trap and target along with squirrels. Almost everything I shoot is small bore.
Much like GMan just posted, I'm looking at polymer frame pistols right now as my next purchase. I'm leaning towards the S&W M&P right now since the XDm isn't available to common folk in Calif.
I'm Tom Slick over on BITOG

One box of .22 and you're at the monthly limit!

Mine was an early Winchester model 12 in 16ga that belonged to my great-grandfather. I still have it.
Who has never sold a gun?

I'm not much of a trader or a collector, I've never sold or traded any of my guns. I inherited a few of them so those aren't going anywhere. I don't buy them often so each one has a specialized purpose, no duplicates....yet
