  1. I've recently acquired a Romanian TTC (Tokarev) in the original 7.62 x 25 round. It is quite possibly, the best semi-auto I've ever fired. Also likely the most accurate handgun I've used at 50 yards ever.

I'm leaving it just the way it is. smile

  2. I've been pondering getting a couple of these while they can still be had. smile

I'll revisit this with an update. I've acquired one of these M24/47's from J&G and it performs far better than my German K98K in just about every way with the same ammo. Aim is true, less misfires, less weight, and much less kick. A definite winner. smile

  3. I haven't crossed the K's off the "list", but would like to use my M95 more and they are still super-cheap. I'm thinking of finding someone to rebarrel/rechamber one to use 7.62X54R. I did a test fit in the clips and feed/extract and had no problems at all. Mine's one of the cut-down long rifles- M95/34

  4. I'd thought about getting a K-11 or even K-31, but passed due to price and possible reliability issues. It takes time to give the Rubins that extra "smack" many seem to recommend. May still get one eventually...

Of my "turn-bolt" action rifles, I'd say my M24/47 is faster than my K98 or Mosin.

You're not kidding! The DA pull is around 20-23 lbs!!

Have you ever tried the "bullet" trick to reduce the DA pull? You can also use a nut instead of a bullet. The bullet allows finer 'adjustment' as you can easily crush it into the right size and shape.

Couldn't find a pic of the bullet it there but here is one with a nut, showing the placement.

Interesting... Wouldn't that stress the mainspring in a different way and possible break it? I'd have to be sure of replacement parts before trying that.

  6. I actually put a lot of thought into my "5 list".

My ML's can do "double-duty" for hunting/defense as well as my reenacting/NSSA stuff. You'll always be able to make my flintlock Springfield fire. It can use solid or pellet shot with ease.

My Enfield is good for aimed shots and large game, especially w/ 500gr minies. wink

Bolt-action rifles are great for long distances and can put up a decent rate of fire if needed. I picked one long and one shorter gun from 2 of the best time/battle tested designs. They WILL work.

Parts availability and construction were considered as well.

I also selected one handgun, a Nagant 1895. A "different" design, but not lacking in power or durability, that never let my grandfather down. He traded for it during WWII and carried it the remainder of the war and beyond. Ammo is cheap and plentiful, while 7 shot cylinder gives you one more than most expect. An excellent defensive weapon IMO. Best used as single action since the trigger pull is real heavy when used as double action.

  7. I've recently decided to start collecting/shooting 8mm Mausers. I've already negotiated for my first one: a Russian capture K98-K and will likely grab some of the Yugo surplus models for shooting. Probably a couple 24/47's.

It seems modern ammo for these is a bit pricey unless I go with surplus ammo. I've heard that the surplus ammo is very corrosive and should be avoided. What's the real deal?
