Red dot scope for older eyes on handgun?

I'm not getting any younger, nor are my eyes. I've read that a red dot scope in place of iron sights will greatly aid target shooting for old eyes.

Does anyone use red dot scope/s on their handguns? Does it make target shooting easier/better for older eyes?

I was able to try a race gun wuth a holographic site and I was impressed with it . I would compare it to a peep site with a huge peep and the dot would grab your attention. The holographic site may not be what you were thinking about but I though it was interesting .
