wwillson
All,I made a surprise purchase today, one of those "I gotta get rid of this rifle now because I need the money NOW" deals. I know the individual to be upstanding, just down on luck at the moment, so I took the bait. Here is what I got: Bushmaster Stainless Varmint Special Leupold - VX III LR 6.5-20x40 Varmint Hunter ARMALITE 30MM SCOPE MOUNT ASSEMBLY Less than 6 months old. Care to guess what it's worth?Wayne Here it is:
RLH70
I have the same rifle, less the scope. Traded my S&W 500 for it. That whole package has to be worth around $2k or a little more retail, so how much of a discount did you get on it?
wwillson
I paid $1350 out the door.Is your rifle a tack driver? What loads does it 'like'?Wayne
RLH70
So you basically got a top quality scope and mount for free!! I haven't shot it a whole lot yet and as such haven't worked up any handloads for it yet, but with factory loads I am seeing groups of about 1.25" @ 100 yards. I hope to tighten that up considerably once I work up some loads.

steves
I bought my first Colt AR in 1978 then bought another one then 2 more so I had 4 . Ars are accurate and easy to shoot. When the Calif government decided to step on the constitution, people I shot with wanted to buy them so I sold them. I would like to get a piston AR though .The direct impingment on the bolt from my experience is a poor design on a rifle you would depend on to protect yourself in a battle field situation . I have gotten my AR dirty enough to have operating problems ,the Chinese ak I used to own would work and work . I like to shoot turn bolt rifles best for recreation . Bill_in_Utah
Wayne, Looks familiar! Here is mine that I built. EXCELLENT shooter! (pardon the mess.. my NORMAL mode) How accurate? Lets just say out to 300 yards (have not tried any further) I would not want to be a milk jug... Take care and enjoy the new rifle!
RLH70
Is that a Mueller scope I see there Bill? How do you like it? I put one on a bolt action Savage varmint rig project of mine some time back, I have no complaints.

Nice scope (I have a few of them on other rifles)
wwillson
Can someone tell me what the flat thing is for on the end of the grip? I have big hands and it makes the grip uncomfortable.Wayne
Tom
I think it's just a weight to make it a little more balanced.
wwillson
I think it's just a weight to make it a little more balanced. It's plastic and only weighs about an ounce.Wayne
Tom
I can't find much on it except it's called a "sniper grip". I've seen them on other tactical rifles with a pistol grip but always thought it was a weight.I say toss it.
