wwillson Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 My great uncle gave me this rifle before he passed. I've only shot it a couple times and really don't know anything about the rifle. I wondered what the history is behind the 44US so I did a Google search and found this website. I found that it was made for the US military during and post WWII ('43-'46). I have never heard of a "lead lapped" barrel. It has a Weaver J4 scope which is in good condition. When the scope was mounted the front post sight was machined off leaving the dovetail, the rear sight is gone. The gun's history has piqued my curiosity, so I think I'll spend some time at the range with it to see how well it shoots.Wayne Quote
Arkie_Lefty Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 Wayne, know you're the admin here, and this may be the next step from hersety,,,,but, you should ask about that one on the mosberg forum over at Rimfire Central.Bob Quote

Pilgrim Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 I once owned a similar Mossberg model 46 from the same era. It too was missing some of the sights. I put a scope on it and found out it was a tack driver. It was kinda beat up, so I refinished the stock and it never shot as well after that. Quote
