crinkles Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 A while ago now, but yeah pretty emotional day for me. Which is strange, because he was a stranger, but a hero to me (as were all of them) . I'm sure he wouldn't like to hear himself called a hero. Quote
NavyVet1959 Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 One has to wonder what he really found on the moon that would have caused him to completely withdraw from NASA.I prefer to say that my hat is made from pewter, not tin... Quote
BarryinIN Posted December 1, 2014 Author Report Posted December 1, 2014 From what I gather from reading about him, he was always very private and reserved. Quote
Tom Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 The NASA Dryden Flight Research Center At Edwards Air Force Base was renamed Armstrong Flight Research Center to honor the work he did there for much of his life. Quote

I'm not really one for these name changes like that. I'll still refer to it as Dryden. Just like the tall office building in in Chicago is referred to as the "Sears Tower" by many instead of the current name of "Willis Tower". Just like many pilots still refer to the main commercial airport in New Orleans (MSY) as Moisant instead of the current name of "Louis Armstrong New Orleans International". I guess it's because us old farts just don't like change and we prefer to use the names that we grew up with. Quote
