New Ruger 10/22 Takedown

I love takedowns. I'm not the biggest 10-22 fan, but there are a lot of guns I like mostly because they are takedowns. Maybe when Ruger gets caught up sometime in the next couple of years, I'll have a look at this one. A friend and I were discussing this at the range about a month ago- why didn't they make the 10-22 in a takedown by just replacing the action screw with a large-headed thumbscrew? Well, they didn't do it quite like that. You pull a latch forward, and give it a partial turn (very similar to a Browning) as shown here:

They come with an extended mag catch. I like how the plastic trigger guard assembly is also called a "feature".

Our club raffled one off last month and a good friend won it. It was an NRA edition with a camo finish and special NRA markings on the gun and case.

He likes it so far, and shot it in the Club Champion Challenge match in July. I particularly like the case.

What we can't figure out is why does it come with one 10-rd mag and one 1-rd mag? Trying real hard, we still can't come up with a reason for a 1-rd mag that's big enough to include one.

Yeah a one round mag would be useless. wink

Mine came with one of the excellent BX-25 as the only mag. I've tried a few of the other after market magazines and while everything works well, the Ruger branded ones do load easier and insert/remove better than anything else.

I have found that the Ruger branded clear 10 rounds do go in a little tight. They are slightly wider than the black ones.

I have a couple of the BX-25s. They are good mags in all respects. They even feel better than other because of the rounded edges.

The only reason we could come up with for the inclusion of a 10-rd and a 1-rd mag is maybe, maybe if you bought the rifle for a junior shooter and wanted to start them out with the 1-rd mag. Then, after they've shown the necessary responsibility, you could. "issue" the 10-rd mag. That's pretty doubtful (Why not just sell the 1-rd mag as an accessory?) but the best we can come up with.
