  1. I received the rifle several months ago and I apologize for the delay. Here is what I ended up with after unpacking. I failed to include the sling in the photo and the only thing that was missing was the oil can. Ammo was a problem because I wanted to buy bulk surplus ammo and I believe that availability is becoming an issue with the 7.62x54r rounds. After several months I received an email that the surplus ( I think that its Bulgarian) ammo was available again. I placed my order and this was on my doorstep today..... The beer is just to give you an idea about the size of the crate because it is somewhat smaller than I thought it would be. I was amazed by the fact that they even dovetailed shipping crates!! More to follow.
  2. I googled it and found this on youtube, thanks for the tip.
  3. You just can't beat the looks of a bolt. The fact that it is American made is just icing on the cake.
  4. Like this? I wouldn't mind one of those myself.
  5. I just ordered a $79 91/30 with the round receiver. The hex receiver models were out of stock at all of the sites that I searched and I suspect that the supply of all Mosin Nagants is dwindling. So anyway, I wanted a WWII era shooter and I think that I've now got one. I have low expectations for fit, finish and accuracy and I will post up some pics along with a noob style review after I receive it.
  6. I was ready to pull the trigger (pun intended ) on this purchase right away. Since I have now settled down a bit, I'm glad that I took the time to give it some more thought. That's great info and obviously a $3500 scope on a $400 rifle is out of the question. Thanks for the feedback. -Steve
  7. I recently stumbled upon a website that would allow me to combine my ongoing interest in WWII history with my growing interest in firearms: http://www.mauser.org/ I am interested in the $399.00 souvenir rifle but I have a few questions and the website is not all that informative. 1. What is the caliber of these vintage rifles and is ammo still available? 2. It says that they are cleaned and inspected...are they safe to shoot? 3. I would eventually want to mount a period correct scope, are they available? Thanks.
  8. I hope that it's not redundant but here is a great video that brought a tear to my eye.
  9. That is really good first hand info. I was pretty sure that I wanted a Glock 17 as my first 9mm but I was less than thrilled with my buddy's after firing it at the range The Browning Hi Power is on my short list. I still have a lot to learn and I am doing a lot more lurking, reading and learning than posting. Thanks for sharing your insight.
  10. Got it. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
  11. I asked what it was in my introductory post and your answers were great but I probably should have waited to post my question here. I do, however have a follow-up question... How does a FTE (fail to eject) differ from a stovepipe?
  12. Thanks for the warm welcome. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words and Pablo's video explained it perfectly. I am happy to be a member of your forum and I look forward to learning a lot from you guys. Just be forewarned that you may get some more silly and stupid questions from me. PS- I am bigdreama from BITOG.
  13. I am new to the forum and new to guns in general. My wife and I will soon be empty nesters so since we no longer have any little ones running around the house, she has eased off of her "no guns" stance. I have been reading and I do have a question right off the bat. What is stovepiping?
