  1. Everyone, I'm going to put my Remington 11-87 12ga up for sale if anyone is interested. The cost is $500. This is a 28" special purpose model. I hope to find someone local (near Chicago, IL) as I don't really want to ship it anywhere. I would estimate 400 rounds have been fired through it. It has been well taken care of. I've not had any issues with this firearm. I am the origional owner and still have the box and extra choke tubes. The reason for selling this is because I'm interested in a long gun, as I already have 2 12ga'es. Edit: I'm having problems uploading the image. I hope you can find a pic here: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/534/dsc04747o.jpg
  2. Hello, I got in some range time yesterday, and I happily trying new things (I'm a newbie). Different stances, one handed, different eyes open, etc.. Once I got comfortable, I tried to shoot two rapid shots in succession. WOW that was a mistake. The first shot was on the paper towards the center, the 2nd shoot hit paper clamp/clip. The whole string trolly started to sway violently for a good 60 seconds. That was pretty embarrassing waiting for it to calm down. I was pretty ashamed that I even tried it. I'm not going to try that again for a while.. firearm: G17 - 9mm handgun Ammo: WWB - 115 Grain FMJ
  3. Wayne, I certainly did have a good time with you guys! Thank you for sharing your time, expertise, and firearms with me. BUT you're going to have to let me buy you some lunch next time before we go, its a little hard to talk/listen with ear plugs in.. I really appreciated the tips you guys gave concerning my bad shooting habits, that I never noticed before! ie: leaning back when firing. I have a lot to learn, but I think I have the basics down: 1. ALWAYS assume the firearm is loaded 2. never point the firearm at anything you don't intend to shoot. 3. safety check a firearm when someone gives it to you. (see #1) The only bad thing about about the outing is that I now really want a 1911! Does the addiction for a new firearm ever go away?
  4. Greetings, How do people feel about .22lr conversion kits? After doing some math, I should be able to come out ahead in terms of $$ in ~6 months or so.. Does anyone have first hand experience with kits like this? I like the idea of a conversion kit instead of a 2nd pistol because I would be practicing on the same pistol (grip). Pistol: Glock 17 - 9mm 100 count 9mm = $22 500 count .22lr = $22 conversion kit = $260. http://www.glockworld.com/category/1718_22_LR_Conversion_Kits.aspx
  5. Is the link below usually how we're supposed to aim at a target? ie: both eyes open focused on the front site? I was at the range today, with both eyes open focusing on the target and the sights kept jumping from left to right.. from the link below, I see I'm supposed to focus on the front sight with the target a little blurry? http://www.targetshooting.ca/docs/pistol_sighting.pdf
  6. I was thinking about bidding on this long gun. It's a 30-06, and not a .308. With no bids yet, I'm wondering if I can bid low? I wonder how offended the guy would be if I offered $300.. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=225870372

    Ruger 1911

Does anyone else think the magazine looks a little funny? It's a different color and size then the rest of the gun. It dosen't seem to fit the form of the pistol.
  8. Serious question: How are people justifying their huge gun collections with their significant other? I have 3 so far, and had a heck of a time with the last purchase..
  9. I had the chance to go to the range on Saturday afternoon. The new pistol was surprisingly easy to use, shoot, and clean. I thought I did pretty well, once I stopped anticipating the recoil. I have some pictures of the paper target, if I can figure out how to upload them.. I was able to also find 100 rounds of ammo @ Walmart for $24. I should probably get more, as it seems like a pretty good price. One thing I'm not fond of, on the pistol is the loose play in the trigger, up until the hammer is engaged. I expected more resistance. I've read the manual and it says to use "oil" to lube the friction points, but I'm thinking grease would probably be more appropriate on the slide rails? Something with VCI's since I'm not supposed to lube all metal parts..
  10. Wayne, I haven't had the chance to head up to the range yet. I hope to go this weekend unless the "honey do" list gets in the way. BUT I did get the chance to break it down a few times and get that copper anti-sieze all over the place. It's amazing how simple these things are.. I still need to do some investigation on who's got the cheapest target loads.. Walmart/BassPro/Rink's/Gander/online.
  11. I got the G17 - Gen3. I wanted to pick it up at Rink's in Lockport, but the place is always WAY to busy. I've been trying to go for the past 3 weekends, but the place is always packed. I purchased the gun from Gander Mountain with the sale they have going on right now. Note: If you're ever in Lockport, IL. The guys at Rink's are fantastic!
  12. Greetings! I just purchased a new 9mm Gen3 Glock on Sunday. YaY, I'm so excited. I pick her up on Wed. This will be my first pistol.
  13. Greetings, I believe this may be my first post? Please go easy on me. I'm searching for a long gun to add to my collection, but I'm unsure of the caliber to choose from. I'm looking for something large enough to take down a deer but versitale (think cheap) enough to shoot at the range, or any other fun I can think of. After some googling, I'm still lost. I know some folks like 30-30, other 30-06, then 243, etc.. Once I decide on a caliber, next comes a model. I did see remington 770's on sale for ~$250 on sale during Xmas, and now I see some Savage 11/111's on sale. My reasoning for these models is the gun/scope combo for ~250-$300. Thanks, Lost
