  1. G-MAN, LOL! I'm sorry bro it's a Colt .44-40 Lighting! For some reason I remember it was double-action maybe converted to DA. So what do you know about the Lighting? And he carries a .44-40 Lever-Action and it's a Winchester but I cain't for the life of me remember the year... I'll go see what I can find...you lemme know if you see any Lightings made in Italy! Thanks... Whoops I think I was misled again by a website! It definitely wasn't a .38! Which I found out the Lighting revolver was... Wow I've got some research to do! BBL And sorry Pablo I should prolly start a new thread when I get this all figured out!
  2. Thanks guys! And Pablo if you ever wanna shoot in a milsurp match we got you covered out here in the Sandhills! Guys if you knew how nervous I was facing these guys who shoot scoped 03's and K31 Swiss you would really know how good it felt to beat some of them with my Yugo. Especially since a lot of those guys have been shooting milsurp competitions for years. This event was the first time I ever shot past 200 yards on purpose! Apparently I have a really accurate milsurp rifle and just didn't know it, that and really flat shooting ammo! I found out later while researching the ammo I shot that it has the best ballistic coefficient of any 7.92mm JS ever produced. I guess I better order some more of that stuff! Every other surplus ammo I have ever shot has been woefully inconsistent and I use the term "woefully inconsistent" loosely as some of wasn't even that good... The rear sights on the mauser are notched out to something like 1000m, it was almost like cheating...I do need to drift the front sight a bit to the left but I'll wait till a nice Summer day when there is hardly a breeze...it was gusting up to 20 mph the day of the match so I'll wait for the doldrums before I go messing with anything...

Wow that is so awesome Pabs! I have heard so often of ranges where you can rent guns! I see a few guns I want you to shoot but I think you prolly need some time alone with that sweet Blackhawk for a bit... Definitely awesome though! If I had access to range like that I can almost guarantee you I would have bought the Glock 19 instead of the Glock 23... I wouldn't part with my G23 for nothing now though...well maybe...
  4. That's how it was for me at first. I was shooting my buddies .357 Blackhawk and knocking down bowling pins at 50 yards no problem then I get out my Glock and the round is hitting the dirt 10 yards in front of the target. With a semi-auto if you wanna shoot for accuracy you really have to work on the smoothness of your trigger finger. IMO it takes more time and practice to get accurate with a semi-auto then it does with the crisp pull of the recoil absorbing heavy framed Blackhawk. Stay with it Pabs!

So does that range allow you to rent guns? If it does I've got some rental suggestions! Definitely want a Sig 225 vs G23 recoil comparison. I'm on the lookout for a softer shooting semi-auto though it's prolly gonna be a M&P.
  6. I think 25 yards is a long way to start...I would start with around 7 yards...that is about the range the 9mm was intended to be used for anyways. Once you get a feel for the gun then go to longer ranges. Heck I've shot a bowling pin at 100 yards just messing around but I sure didn't start shooting at distance... Yes I figured the Blackhawk would be accurate. Everyone I have shot has been way more easy to get accurate with than the semi-autos I have recently been exposed too. In fact I think the perceived recoil of the .357 chambered in a Black is much tamer than the .40 in a Glock. The Blackhawk is just a better platform as far as accuracy at the range is concerned IMHO.
  7. So in a SHTF situation you better not have a jam! Time for more buck shot exercises! I see a Pachmayr Decelerator in your future..

My stock Glock sights are pretty much just white paint or white colored plastic...so try painting them first. Get out the wite out! Or get crazy and steal "SWMBO's" toenail paint! Neon orange! Edit: Don't buy finger nail polish! You get caught with it and it ain't hers she will wanna know whose! Don't ask me how I know! You will have to steal it from her instead...
  9. Nice Nice! Bet that was more educational than fun though! Ouch!
  10. Did you fix the jams quick? Are you gonna drop the shottie and go for the revolver on your hip when it jams?
  11. Yah the Blackhawk coolness factor is hard to beat! I'm wanting a stainless version in .41 Magnum but I might have to settle for blued. Maybe a .45 Long Colt is what I need... Did you post pics of yours Pabs with the Esmeralda grips? Let's see a rarer convertible with even rarer grips... I have shot 3 Blackhawks in my life and all were really fun and accurate! Buddy shoots the Vaquero model in cowboy action....and lemme tell you that is a shiny gorgeous gun. I kinda like the Satin Stainless on some of the Redhawks and I wish Ruger would carry it to the Blackhawks...
  12. I just got emailed the results of the match! Guess what? Out of the ten Mausers in the match I was #4! I'm kinda proud of myself but I'm not bragging! Wow just wow! And to think I almost sold that rifle because I couldn't hit anything at 100 yards with it! At 300 plus meters that gun really shoots! Anybody have any experience with drifting the front sights on a K98 style?
  13. Yah I'm just glad it's not Guns and Badminton!
  14. Yah Ruger definitely makes things in waves...my buddy has been waiting six months for an Alaskan in .454...
  15. Yah he's long winded to say the least but I don't have a television currently hooked up in my house...
  16. It was a very interesting experience...as each target had a two-way radio behind so when you hit the target a resounding twang could be heard. And I had a partner that I shot with and we spotted each other using a spotting scope. We were allowed one sighting round per target that didn't count and then fired ten per target. I really enjoyed the whole experience and I am very very happy with the performance of my $200 gun! I was using ammo designed for the Zastava in my M24/47 and lemme tell you that is some very consistent firing surplus. That has to be the best surplus I have ever fired. And at ten bucks for a box of 15 it's a deal compared to waht some guys pay for Norma 8mm. As soon as the scores are up on the website I will put them up if y'all are interested...
  17. Well the lil bro stood me up! He took off to another town after some girls I guess... Ah well... I shot the Yugo and scored a 25. I ranked 18 out of 41. 100 yard 7/10 410 yard 5/10 495 yard 7/10 660 yard 6/10 That M75 surplus was some flat shooting stuff. Wow! The Mauser really excelled at long distance!
  18. Yah Wal-mart has 250 rounds of UMC for 50 bucks.
  19. Useless thread without Esmeralda pics...I meant grip pics... I hope they fit nice...I cain't wait to see this doll of a gun! I'm wanting a .41 Blackhawk now so bad! I'm gonna put staghorn grips on it like the one my dad let get away. One of my favorite series of books has the main character carrying a Colt double action in .44-40. They still make those?
  20. As long as you lube the BCG they will run until you're done...
  21. By the way I should add that it is the Camper model and around 4 years old I believe. He told me about it when he bought it and only recently has he wanted to sell it. I would buy it but I would rather have a 10/22 which I'm looking at buying one at the gun show on the 13th.
  22. A guy at work has one of those with ten rounds through it for 300 bucks... Is it worth it G-MAN? The model he has is stainless. I haven't seen it yet but he's no fibber and he says it's like new.
  23. That's awesome! One of the main reasons I bought my the Mauser and the Glock and built the AR was because my wife's sixteen year-old brother wanted them and wanted to go shooting! We play COD a lot and one day we started discussing real guns and now we go shooting quite a bit and now he wants to go in the Army. So I got rid of the Playstation and now we do real stuff...fun stuff...it's great for one's health! Especially since the lil bro is not really into football and other sports. He does enjoy challenging himself though at the range. If you saw how tall the sandhill is that we race to the top of back down again before we shoot to get our blood pumping you would know what I mean. It's a good mind and body concentration exercise! I've got him entered in a Mausers vs Nagants Stalingrad match next Saturday and he is stoked! His older girlfriend just dumped him today and he's a bit down so I gave him a call and his first question was about the match! I'm so glad she's out of the picture for awhile so we can get down to the range and shoot! She was a pain anyways as I think she was the cigarette buyer! Now that I've got that habit snuffed out and got him into taking care of himself and training for Army boot camp I worry a lot less about him. He's got two years before he goes into the Army if I could just keep him running and doing push-ups and shooting safely and away from the temptations of youth he will be set like a jet! I keep telling him that if you put bad things in your mind you get bad things out of it! I thinking being a responsible outdoorsman is a much better thang than playing video games all weekend like I did. Tons of life lessons learned in the great outdoors! I applaud anyone who takes time with our youth to make them responsible hunters and shooters is doing much for the young adult that is forming. Certainly the kid in the video has good parents who are taking the time... Now if only I could get my Vegan hippy wife to let us go hunting! Ah well...bowling pins are much easier to field dress! LOL
  24. Good job bro! When I search youtube for the big monsters like Deagles and .500 S&W's there is always some fool putting one in the inexperienced hands of a young lady! What's up that foolery? Good on you man!
