  1. Now I just need a BH tester... Any suggestions?
  2. So you guys are saying you really like Glocks?!
  3. RLH70, The directions I found were to heat WW lead for 1hr at 400F and quench, this will yield a BH of 15. Is that similar to what you remember? Wayne
  4. I would be a bit concerned that the brake cleaner would damage the paint/coating on firearms. Wayne
  5. Got a chance to shoot a Glock with the slim grip yesterday. Wow, what a difference, as the new slim grip doesn't feel like a 2x4 any more. I would definitely consider a Glock now with the new grip. Wayne
  6. I don't know if I'm bad luck or what, but I saw another 1911 go kaboom this weekend. The shooter was in an IDPA match and instead of stopping when the gun didn't fire, he just racked that slide and... kaboom... Shooter ok, slide and frame ok, but pride hurt. The barrel was split all the way from the muzzle to within 1/2" from the hood. Took about 10 minutes to get the bushing off and the barrel out. The barrel was not in pieces like this one. Wayne
  7. Scotty, Welcome! Very glad to have you here. Wayne
  8. I am on a quest to reduce the amount of leading with my cast 45ACP bullets. I believe my WW lead is about 10 BH, which I think is the main reason I'm having so much trouble with leading. I've been loading with Universal Clays at the max load and the leading is really bad. I can load the same bullet with a known BH of 15 and leading is nonexistent. The Lee second edition manual says that at the max pressure for a 45ACP, the lead will need to be at BH of about 16. According to the Los Angeles Silhouette Club's website if you heat treat WW lead for 60 min at 400F you can achieve a BH of 15 after a few days of sitting. Has anyone tried heat treating WW lead? Wayne
  9. Moe, You need to shoot steel, then you could recover all of the shot with a magnet!
  10. Here is Brian's website. Do you use the viscosity for the given temperature, or do you just us one viscosity for your pistols? Wayne
  11. Bob, I removed the rammer and polished both the inside and outside with steel wool. The tube is much less sticky on the wads and I no longer get the occasional shot bridged inside the tube. Sure is nice not to have to pick up shot from all over the floor! Thanks for the idea, Wayne
  12. I have shot 5 rounds of trap since I moved the comb over - sure is easier to break targets when the shot is hitting where you think it is! Much improved scores as well. Wayne
  13. Does anyone shoot the Rainier copper plated bullets? I am curious how well they load and if they eliminate lead fouling? I have read that it's not hard to tear the copper plating layer from the bullet while seating in the brass. I shoot cast WW bullets almost exclusively in my .45's and quite frankly am getting a bit tired of the lead fouling. Thanks, Wayne
  14. As the subject says, I use Rem Oil as the lube on the slide and all other parts of my 1911's. I have a Kimber Custom that is about 18 months old and has fired about 10,000 rounds. There is some wear on the contact points of the slide and frame. Rem Oil is very low viscosity and some of my shooting friends use a much more viscous oil on their guns. I am wondering if Rem Oil is enough lubrication when the guns are cleaned and re-lubed about every 500 rounds? Wayne
  15. RLH70, I will bet that the seating depth was different on the shots that had such variation on the chronograph. Did you by chance mark your ramrod to make sure you always seated to the same depth? Wayne
  16. Lots of fun, but you kind of have to choose carefully who is standing to your right. The guy next to me is a 30 year veteran of shotgun games - ouch... Needless to say I didn't last long. Wayne
  17. Yes, we use Triple Seven in our .50 muzzle loader. We find that they are very easy to work with and very consistent. Makes it pretty hard to go back to loose powder. Just my $.02 Wayne
  18. I see many unbroken bio targets that leave dust, but not break when hit with our steel shot. Any time you walk around the area beyond the trap, there will be many unbroken targets on the ground. Wayne
  19. Is the target only used once, or can it be reused? What load at what speed? Wayne
  20. What's your favorite load (bullet grains & fps) in the 300?
  21. Moe, I had never heard of it until you mentioned you have it at your club. This is a link to the US Helice Association website. I would assume it's lots of fun and more expensive than a round of trap? Wayne

Moe, Welcome! Glad to have you here and can't wait for you to share your experiences. Wayne
  23. Nope - fixed full. It's an old Remington 870 30" wingmaster barrel. Wayne
  24. I'll bet you notice the delta in recoil!
