  1. Not if it's made properly. Kahr makes a .40 in this size that is rock solid reliable.
  2. Don't know if you've been following Hickok45's vids on his new PF9, but he's been having trouble with the magazine ejecting under recoil. He's been bending over backward to appear fair and unbiased when it comes to this gun, and you can tell he's really struggling not to just call a spade a spade and say it's a piece of junk. Here's his latest posted comment: Quote:I emailed Kel-Tec a couple of days ago, and they answered that they would put the new mag release in the mail to me. I'm assuming it's not that hard to replace - I didn't plan on having to become a Kel-Tech gunsmith the first week or two of owning one. :-)
  3. Congrats. Not a fan of rails in general and definitely not on a 1911.

    S&W 4006

Don't get me wrong, the 4006 is still a big chunk of steel. In doing a closer comparison it is a littler larger than the P225--more like a Commander size 1911 (but with a wider slide and thicker grip)--but still smaller than what I was expecting. Definitely smaller than my Ruger P95. Trigger seems a bit odd and I'll reserve judgment until I get the gun to the range. The DA pull is great. The SA pull feels like a 2-stage trigger. I got it from GB. Total with shipping was $375.

I was a bit surprised at the size. It's really no bigger than my SIG P225. I was expecting it to be a big tank like my Ruger P95.

The 4006 came in today. What a nice gun. Fit and finish inside and out every bit as good as SIG, IMHO. Someone has been shooting cast boolits through this booger because the barrel is heavily leaded. Got it soaking in Ballistol now.
  7. Most of the "high end" 1911s (like the Ed Brown) use the Series 70 firing system. They meet the drop test through the use of stronger firing pin springs and lighter firing pins (titanium).
  8. I'd prefer a Series 70 myself. http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/ColtPistols/ColtSeries70.aspx
  9. Well, if it's a gun you really want with virtually no chance of finding it locally, and the price difference is $187...
  10. What is the $70 license fee? The FFL transfer? Can't you find a local pawn shop dealer who will do it for $25-$30?

  12. Well, you said you couldn't find a new Colt, so all the benefits of buying locally are moot if there is nothing to buy. That's why I suggested Gunbroker.

    Nice 1911 review

Tnoutdoors9 is a friend of Hickok45. He does a lot of ammo tests on YouTube and a few shooting vids, but he just got a new Colt 1911 and posted a pretty nice review: "> " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">
  14. Hard to believe the 1847 Colt Walker, when loaded to full capacity, was roughly the equivalent of a 45-70 revolver.

  16. On this day in 1836 Samuel Colt was issued a patent for his revolving cylinder handgun, what would become the "Patterson" Colt revolver.
  17. Welcome to the forum. A "stovepipe" is a misfeed in a semi-auto pistol where either the unfired round doesn't chamber and sticks up like a "stovepipe," or the spent cartridge doesn't eject properly and jams between the slide and chamber throat, again sticking up like a "stovepipe."

    S&W 4006

Well, I got it. I'll post some pics when it gets here.
  19. In doing some research, there appear to be conflicting reports. Some say the Springfield 1911s are assembled in the US from parts made elsewhere (primarily Brazil), others say the entire gun is made and assembled in Brazil.
  20. I wasn't too impressed with the RIA finish on the gun I looked at. It was green-gray and extremely rough. When the guy in the shop broke out the blued FireStorm/American Classic, I knew that was the one I wanted. http://www.gunblast.com/Firestorm-1911Deluxe.htm
  21. Tell him you want the opportunity to meet or beat his best offer. I'd personally go $450 on that gun if it's like new.
