Not all .40SW barrels will allow you to load to 10mm lengths though. If not, then you can get the throat reamed to 10mm length. There's a guy on one of the forums that I frequent that does it rather reasonably.

I'm not really one for these name changes like that. I'll still refer to it as Dryden. Just like the tall office building in in Chicago is referred to as the "Sears Tower" by many instead of the current name of "Willis Tower". Just like many pilots still refer to the main commercial airport in New Orleans (MSY) as Moisant instead of the current name of "Louis Armstrong New Orleans International". I guess it's because us old farts just don't like change and we prefer to use the names that we grew up with.

Hopefully it is not a trend. I like the old way. Even better was the old days when we could go to the local dump and drink beer while shooting at the tin cans and such that was there. Now, on a side note, I recently hit the age where I get a senior discount at one of the ranges in the Houston area. I now only have to pay $3 to go to the range and there is no time limit.

From a purely theoretical standpoint, brass that uses small primers would be slightly stronger than the same brass if it was designed to use large primers. Looking on the bright side... If you run out of large primers, you will still be able to shoot your .45 with small primers in that brass.

I have shot quite a few .40SW rounds in a 10mm barrel in a Glock 20 and Glock 29. The extractor holds the round more securely than with a M1911 style handgun. A better solution though is to use .40SW brass and reload it to 10mm overall length so that you can load it to full 10mm pressures / velocities. It won't chamber in a .40SW handgun at that point, so you're in no danger of accidentally loading it in a firearm that is not built for that pressure.
