I am not familiar with Golden Bear ammo but it looks like your rifle likes it. Have you had a chance to shoot it at 100 yds yet? If so, how did it do?

If it shoots half that good at 100 yds then that's a keeper Were you using handloads? Griz

I suppose taking it to another gunsmith would be a good idea...but I have a lot of confidence in the one I took it to. He has been a gunsmith for over 40 years and does work for people all over this country and Canada. Does anyone own a Remington 710 that the action works fine on? Griz

It been shot enough to break it in. That is not the issue. I have never felt an action this stiff before that is why my nephew took it into a gun smith hoping there was something he could do. I think his next step is to get a-hold of Remington and see what they say. Griz

My nephew bought a Remington 710 a couple of years ago and found that the action was really stiff. He took it to a gun smith who said there was nothing he could do to make it any better. Has anyone had this problem with this model and if so what did you do to fix/repair it? Thanks, Griz

You got that right Steve...Leupold does an excellent job of warranty service on their scopes. I bought a used rifle several years ago with a Leupold 3x9 VX2 scope on it that looked like someone used pliers on the adjustment rings. I thought what the heck I'll send it in to Leupold and ask how much it would cost to have the adjustment rings replaced. They sent me a new scope and only charged me for shipping and handling...$15. Now that's what I call service. Griz

You got that right Bob in both cases. What caliber was your nephew using? I use a .280 on elk with 160 gr. Nosler Partition bullets. So far I haven't had to use more than one bullet in each of the four elk I have taken. Your nephew might also consider using Nosler Accubond bullets on those deer. They should also do the job well. Bob, one needs a heavy bullet for penetration on elk. The 150's just won't do it unless it was a Barnes bullet. But I haven't had good luck getting a Barnes to shoot tight groups. Probably just the combinations of cases, powders and primers I have tried don't work well with them. I've heard others have used Barnes bullets and love them. I am partial to the Nosler Partition bullets. They always perform well for me and aren't hard to get them to shoot tight groups. I'll have to concentrate on IMR-4350 more and see what happens. Griz

I assume by what you are loading in the 300 Ultra Mag...this is your big game load? Have you shot anything with the Accubond bullet yet...if so how does it compare to the Partition? Griz

My nephew is looking for a new scope to mount on his .270 rifle. He is looking for a good 3x9. I have no experience with the Nikon scopes. I have always used a Leupold and like them a lot. Not only for the warranty but they just perform well. The scopes he is considering so far is the Nikon Buckmaster or the Leupold VX-2 3x9...any comments? Thanks, Griz
